Netherlands, Brussels and possibly Luxembourg

We plan to travel late April to mid May (we could have 3-3.5 weeks). For sure we plan to visit but the Netherlands and Brussels and need to read a bit more about Luxembourg. I thought we might do much from Amsterdam as daytrips but am not rethinking this. Haarlem, Edam, Enkhuizen Zuiderzee Museum, Delft and Keukenhaf are the areas I originally thought we'd want to visit. But I think that Texel also sounds nice. It sounds like we do not take a car to the ferry but would it still be best to drive there and then stop along the way at Edam and the Enkhuizen Zuiderzee Museum along the way. Then we had a car we could drive to Delft and then Belgium (Bruges, Antwerp, Brussels and Ghent. I am not sure wheich we will do first but would want to visit Keukenhaf early in the trip to see the gardens. We will probably fly into one location and out of another. Any thoughts to get me mapping out this trip will be greatly appreciated.

Flying into one place and out of another often makes great sense. Renting a car in one country and dropping it off in another does not because of the steep extra fees.

Yes, and some countries have such expensive drop fees. I have not even looked at car rentals yet. So, as I was thinking this morning maybe I should fly in and out of Amsterdam. We could start with Keukenhaf first and then to Brussels and then Delft and then drop the car back at the Amsterdam airport and then spend the remainder of the trip in Amsterdam and north without the car. I need to gather more info about Texel.

No need for car to go to Texel or any place on your list - cars are fine but in cities a hassle - anyway for a good fix on trains/buses and where to go by them check www.seat61.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com.

Texel take train to Den Helder and ferry to island - rent bikes or use buses to get around.

and need to read a bit more about Luxembourg.>

Luxembourg City to most is rather dull -worth a look for its physical beauty - deep gorge runs thru the center and perhaps tour the Casements - tunnels hewn out of the cliffs for military purposes thru the ages.

But the Grand Duchy itself is quite bucolic in several areas -like Clervaux - do drive around the country a bit

From Luxembourg Maastricht is a natural and to me one a unique look and feel to it. Really liked it.

Or from Luxembourg you could easily putz down to Trier, Germany and drive some of the gorgeous Mosel Valley to say Bernkastle-Kues, a cute riverside wine town.

We always rent cars when visiting Europe but not in the Netherlands where we go by train, tram, trolley and bus.

I have driven a lot in NL in years past and though roads may have changed a bit the main roads were often crowded and boring - you can see the countryside just as well or better from trains which go everywhere. Driving into and out of Amsterdam can be really slow with relatively few main roads lacing the city center.
