Neist Point Wind Measured?
 

On my recent trip to Scotland, on the Isle of Skye, we stopped at Neist Point and the winds were howling so much that I could barely stand up, had to hold on to a railing. A little earlier in a nearby area, the wind actually blew me to the ground.
Can anyone tell me how to find the recent wind speeds at Neist Point? Are they even measured?
All I know is, I had never experienced winds like that outside an approaching hurricane I was in years ago.

WeatherOnline apparently has the data but wants payment. I'm not comfortable submitting a credit card for something like that. I hope there is another site I can find with that kind of information.

I don't know if the Met office site has records for your date - http://wow.metoffice.gov.uk/ You can enter the plac ename, the time and date - slide the slider at the bottom, and click on windspeed.

I don't know specifically about Neist Point, but what days(s) were you there. In early May there were gusts up to 70 mph over a couple of days in parts of north/central Scotland. We missed the worst of it over in Fife

This may be hijacking your thread, as I can't answer your question, but I think the Meteorological people in the UK must keep records the way we do in the States. I would assume they would be accessible online for free. As an example of what use these data can be put to, here is a link to a neat US site that shows wind patterns. http://hint.fm/wind/ Perhaps they have similar ones in Britain.

We arrived on Skye late afternoon May 17, the day I got blown over and then went to Neist Point was May 18. We left Skye on the 19. That last day was much less windy and more sunny. We rode the Gondola at Ft William.

Dunvegan weather station seems to be the closest to Neist Point on the Met office site. It is more protected than the Point.

I don't seem to be able to get to Neist Point specifically. It is very high and the wind was awful. I can get the info for Dunvegan but we were there and it wasn't nearly as windy.

I was blown to the ground nearby. I ruined my glasses, cut my face and hands, and my eye area was badly bruised. Doc says I may have cracked a bone but nothing to be done about it. It broke the uv filter on my camera but the rest of the camera works fine.

According to this site the max gust, as far as I can tell, on the day we were there was about 63 mph.
