Negotiating rates?
We were planning to stay in a studio at Delfini in Oia (145E a night), but when we looked at the pictures, we decided that traditional house is a bit more to our liking (200E a night). We really wanted to keep our hotel at $200 a night; is it considered rude to ask for a lower rate when making reservations?

Not if you do it politely. Tell Rena you would like to upgrade to a traditional cave house. Ask if there is one available on your travel dates but that you can not pay more than €165/night. This technique applies to any other accomodation you are considering. Business is slow this year and you might get lucky!
Take a look at these while you're at it: Lucky Homes, Angel Cave Houses, Chelidonia Villas, Rimida Villas, Strogili Houses, Villa Kallisti, Lauda Hotel, Golden Sunset Villas, Marizan Villas and Lena's House. |
Clearly I am an indecisive person. Just came across Angel Cave houses. Does any have any experience with this hotel?

brotherlee--thank you for your advice. I think I will email Rena, but before I do, do you kow if the traditional cave house in complex C (the one I would like to upgrade to) has an electric pole in front of the verenda? This is the panoramic that gave me that impression:

I can't say for sure but I think that's an old photo. As far as I know all electrical lines have all been moved underground. When you email Rena just ask.
I will say that once you're there you probably will not even notice it if it's still there. I wouldn't let it deter me. By the way, if you don't receive an answer in a reasonable amount of time it may be because sometimes email servers think her reply is Junkmail/SPAM and filters it out. I know that Yahoo does this sometimes. If you need it, try opening a free google gmail account, as apparently this one works fine. Reviews for Angel Cave Houses: http://www.tinyurl.com/2wpqvow |
P.S. Angel Cave Houses is in the same area as Complex C.

There are very few scenic places in Greece without power lines in the view. Just a fact of life there. Be thankful that there is electricity, as in years past we have stayed in places that did not have electricity. Beleive me it was still wonderful to be there!

Thank you again! Both hotels look like paradise. Any advice on one hotel over the other?
