NEED YOU! Train Venice-Trieste

Have you ever done it?
Was it worth it?

That's all part of my ellaborate plans to get to Croatia in the coolest way possible...

Thank you so much.

Hi B,

Was what worth what?

braziliantraveller Aug 23rd, 2006 04:00 PM

the view, the trip...the train ride from Venice to Trieste.

My point is: When in Venice, should I take an airplane and head to Croatia (Split) directly?

Or should I take this train from Venice to Trieste and then take a flight to Split?

Thanks.

Hi B,

Look up Trieste in the "Search this forum" box.

There is at least one report.

I think the OP said that he was very impressed with views coming into Trieste.

I think that he also liked the city.

The train ride is dull most of the way -- until you get closer to Trieste. The last 20 km are one of the most scenic train rides in Europe. The train runs high along the coast and slowly goes down until it reaches the sea level in the outskirts of Trieste... beautiful.
Trieste is one of the prettiest cities in Europe, a little Vienna by the sea (not just becaus I was born there hehehe...) Visit it and you won't regret it. If you still want to go to Split afterwards, there is a daily bus leaving at 5.30 PM (but no direct flights or trains).
