Need translation help
While I am sure that others can add more sites, I use http://babelfish.altavista.com/tr
for translating to English. You copy and paste what you want translated (or site the page) and pick the language into which it is to be translated. Then, in just a little time you get, while not totally accurate, enough to understand what is being said.

Use it at your peril. If you have anything even vaguely subtle to translate, it will NOT serve you well. It's not even that good for basic translation.
|
So, Translation, what site do you use? Let's get as many sites listed as we can to help all of us mono or bi-lingual people.
|
http://www.freetranslation.com/
I reverse the translation as well when i'm done just to check if it got messed up in the translation.

For translation I find dictionary.com the best (and it's free). I had purchased "Easy Translator 3"--and it is terrible! Jinx Hoover

There's no free MT (machine translation) technology that is any good. Babelfish and the others will all give you basic "gist-level" translation, but do not trust them with anything complicated or even remotely important. Those cheap desktop applications are just as bad, and they are not free.

With that said, these tools are still really cool when you think about it, and real MT is slowly but surely being developed in the commercial world.

For translation of a phrase or short text from a native speaker, try http://www.allexperts.com/

It's not instantaneous (up to a few days), but has worked well for me for specific questions.

I am quite pleased with Google - Language Tools (on their home page), for simple phrases. Superfast.
With all of them, you have to stick to a simple phrase construction.
|
For Russian text I use

http://www.translate.ru/

It is quite useful, especially when trying to find specific pieces of information.
