Need suggestions for Christmas Day in Edinburgh

My family (adults and two older teens) will be visiting Edinburgh 12/20 till 12/26. Can someone suggest a church service to attend? A choir recital? Or a restaurant for dinner?
Thank you

I'd go to a service at St Giles Cathedral

As for where to have Christmas lunch/dinner - where are you staying? Unless you have a car, you'll need to find a place w/i walking distance

And what is your budget?

Lots of restaurants are closed, and the ones that do serve will be expensive. Are your staying in a hotel? If so, that might be your best option.

Thank you for replying. We are staying at the Walton guest house on Hanover and Cumberland.

We will not have a car and budget 75 euros per person for lunch/dinner.

I think that you'll need to get somewhere booked quick....they tend to fill up many places don't open. I suggest asking Mr Google for Edinburgh Christmas Day lunch

Yes book ASAP. You can't just turn up at a restaurant on Christmas Day. I hope you haven't left this too late....

Actually, you could ask the people who own the guest house that you are staying in....

I'd advise booking as soon as possible for Christmas Eve and Boxing Day too.

Try Edinburgh Zoo, not only are they open on Christmas Day but I believe they are doing Christmas Dinner as well - there is a bus service on Christmas Day

BTW the Walton Guest House is on Dundas Street - it's nowhere near Hanover STREET. The apartment is on Cumberland STREET - which also isn't anywhere near Hanover Street

I'd choose St Mary's Scottish Episcopal cathedral for Christmas eve or day services, http://www.cathedral.net/images/whatson.pdf

As Edinburgh Zoo is open,I'd go there.I was just there 3 weeks and loved seeing the tigers up close. My trip report mentions how good this Zoo is.

Thanks to all who replied. We took the bus to the zoo. It was freezing day and there with about 25 other people wandering around the grounds.

<<< Hanover and Cumberland. >>>

One little point - PLEASE use the full name of streets & places in the UK. Otherwise you could end up several miles - or in some infamous cases several hundred miles - from where you want to be
