need suggestions for 2 days in Cote D'azur

Hello
My husband and I have two days in Cote d'azur (Oct. 14 and 15) before we have to to on to monaco for his work trip. We are looking for suggestions to stay in a place that has a little it of everything: French charm, lots of cute restaurants; great hotel or inn to stay in and amazing sightseeing. I guess we want to stay somewhere that when we get there we say WOW! Cost is not an issue. Im looking at the coast as far as st tropez and also maybe two hours into the country maybe... We will be renting a car to drive the coast.

I know thats a lot. We are not into clubbing, Just appreciate good food, scenery and good people.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Also, whats the weather like...?

Thanks
SCC

I would say Antibes; has a bit of everything; charm, restaurants, sightseeing, but I cannot think of a really great hotel in town (unless the Hotel du Cap, but that's outside of town and may be a bit over the top).

Maybe St Paul de Vence - hotel Le Saint Paul?
Or le Mas Candille in Mougins? Easy for Cannes, and lovely old village.

St Tropez is not convenient for just 2 days - it's takes quite some time to drive to anywhere, roads are always busy.

Weather in October can be anything; you could have nice days, or it could rain all day. Not beach weather, but maybe nice enough to eat outside at lunchtime.

Or stay in one of the really grand hotels in Cannes; the Carlton or the Martinez. Do check if there is not a convention in Cannes those days, though.

Stay in a sea-view room with terrace at the hotel La Pérouse in Nice. It's built right into the rock atop which sits the "château," and terraces have views right out to the sea. The roof-top terrace next to the small exercise room (probably with the world's best site) has panoramic views of the coast. There is a swimming pool surrounded by lemon trees, and from a large window next to one of the 2 elevators you can look out at the view that both Dufy and Matisse painted while staying in the hotel.

The La Pérouse is a short walk from Vieux Nice.

I agree with Underhill. La Persouse is the perfect spot, lovely rooms, garden/dining area under lemon trees, perfect views from the rooms. And as mentioned, a short walk to Old Town, and the Port and other pedestrian areas. On top of the rock is an interesting cemetery with nods to some Greek history, and where you can take a peek into the lives of ordinary citizens that have gone before us. There is plenty to see and do in Nice, and you may want to take a short bus ride to Cimiez to see some ruins. Antibes, Villefranche, and other interesting towns close by.
