Need suggestion for place to stay between Bern & Zurich
At the end of a two week trip to Germany & Austria, we are flying out of the Zurich Airport. Learning of this, my Uncle who is traveling with us said he'd like to re-visit Bern for a day. My goal is to drive in from Germany and pick a place to stay so that we can daytrip to Bern the next day, and then travel to the airport easily the following morning and not have to move hotels. We will have a car and our morning flight is at 11:00 AM. I would prefer not driving much more than an hour to the airport that morning. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance!

Hi phieaglefan,
I think the ideal spot for you is Luzern, a charming city with lots of history, a beautiful old town, and stunning views over water to the nearby mountains.
According to www.mappy.com, Bern would be 1h8 from Luzern, and the Zurich airport would be 48 mins.
Let me know if I can help further!

Everyone picks Luzern, and indeed it's a very nice city. For me, I prefer a place a little smaller, with its own character. That leads me to recommend two places northwest of Zurich, probably only a half-hour drive from the airport and about 2 hours from Bern. One is Baden, one of my favorites, with really charming town and shops, and lots of Kodak moments. The other is Lenzburg, more to the west than northwest, and still close to Zurich, where there is a pretty castle and some nice little inns. So there--you can have the standard Luzern recommendation or you can venture to something a bit different. Good luck.
