Need specific recommendation

Thanks to everyone for contributing - great advice!
I will be traveling from Rome up Zurich with my family in June.
We have two days to get there and will be traveling by train.
I am looking for maybe an agriturismo or Inn with GREAT food, beautiful surroundings, but must be near the train line. It's ok for us to take a can for a small distance, but not over 10 miles or so.
We want a place to relax and chill after hitting Rome hard! (and before we head to Paris)
Budget is 300.00 per night. We really are open to ideas, Tuscany, Piedmont, (food) etc...CT.
Traveling with two teenagers who are easy easy travelers.
I know this is a broad, but there are so many places and I really just want someone to recommend a specific place that they LOVE!
Anyone?
Thanks again!

I'm not clear exactly what you are asking. Do you mean you have two days to get from Rome to Zurich, and want to break your journey to spend a single night at an inn? I assume you mean you are willing to take cab or taxi for a short distance from a rail station to your hotel. Which currency are you using; Euro, USD, or Swiss Franc?

Yes, you are correct. Two nights (three days) to get from Rome to Zurich. $ 300.00 USD, but flexible on that if it's a great place. And yes, a cab ride from rail station to inn. Sorry for the lack of clarity in my post. Thank you.

If you're traveling from Rome to Zurich by train, your itinerary will pass through Milan, so Piedmont would be a considerable detour. If you have two days to get there, you really have only one night, with a fairly long trip on the day before and the day after, so you can't expect to see much at your midway destination, and I don't know how restful it would be.

Mostly, people take a nonstop train to Milan, which takes a little less than 3 hours. Any rural agriturismo would be a long way from Milan station. The train from Milan to Zurich takes a little longer than 3 hours, so Milan is about the midpoint.

It would be possible to take a train to Florence on your first day and travel to a local Tuscan inn or agriturismo from there, but I don't know if you'll find one within 10 miles of the station. Then you'd have to leave fairly early the next day, because it would be a long trip from there to Zurich, including getting back to the station. It would take about as long as the trip all the way from Rome.

You could take a train to Torino (In Piemonte) but this is a longer trip, passing through Milan, and the train makes more stops, taking about 4 1/2 hours. Again, it's a big city, and finding the kind of place you want within 10 miles of the station might be difficult. The trip from Torino to Zurich would involve returning to Milan, and the whole trip to Zurich would be about 5 hours.

You could get a train to, for example, Reggio Emilia on your first day. It would probably be easier to find a rural inn within 10 miles of the station in a smaller city like that.

Another possibility would be to spend your first night in Varenna (on Lake Como) or Lugano (in Switzerland, on Lake Lugano). Both have fairly easy connections to Milan and to Zurich.

If you really want to relax along the way and break your trip, you should plan on taking three days to get to Zurish, so you can spend two nights in your stopover.

You might look is in the hills above Florence, in the vicinity of Fiesole, Maiano or Settignano. A taxi from Florence main station can run you up there in 20 minutes or so. I'm not sure Fattoria di Maiano fits your budget but it's convenient.

GREAT food is not cheap in Northern Italy.
In order to give you an idea:
Ristorante Gargallo, in a scenic village above Lake Orta, 2 Michelin stars: dishes from 84 up to 180 EUR/pax
https://it.viamichelin.ch/web/Ristor...o-153384-41102

But if it must not be that GREAT, you will find a lot of sympathic hotels at small places and not too far away from a railway station around the North Italian lakes. May be you check:
Hotel Colazza, above Lake Maggiore, short taxi ride from Arona railway station
https://www.albergocolazza.com/blog
Hotel Tre Laghi, above Lake Maggiore, short taxi ride from Arona railway station

Bellavista Boutique hotel at Brunate (rope railway or taxi from Como)

Hotel Panorama at Pugerna, in front of Lugano

Hotel Zumstein or any other hotel in the mountain village of Macugnaga

How to reach these places from Rome:
Como: trains every hr, change at Milan, 3 3/4 hrs journey
Arona: trains every hr, change at Milan, 4 1/2 hrs journey
Pugerna: Rome dp 10.00 - Milan 12.55/13.25 - Lugano ar 14.41, taxi to boat (1 mile), boat dp 15.00 - San Rocco ar 15.59
Macugnaga: Rome dp 9.00 - Milan 11.55/12.23 - Domodossola 13.43/14.15 - Macugnaga ar 15.30

How to reach Zurich from these places:

from Arona: trains about every hr, 4 - 5 hrs journey
from Pugerna/San Rocco: 7 boats and connecting trains per day, last departure 18.03, Zurich ar 21.51

FWIW, I don't happen to think Michelin 2* food is "great" in Italy. I think it's a nuisance, and often surprising tasteless, especially compared to the food you can eat in trattorie and osterie in northern Italy. Everybody's idea of "cheap" is different, but I have eaten unforgettable multi-course meals in northern Italy for less than 35 euros per person, wine included. Plus sampling food from standout shops and delicious street food in northern Italy cost me far less than that.

If you stay near Fiesole, go to the central piazza Mino and eat crostini at Vinandro. It will cost you around 10 euros, and it is great.

The first issue is the fast trains do not stop at any small stations so you would have to take a slow train (if you wanted to get off somewhere in Tuscany). Many of the small stations have no services (no taxis, etc.).

A simple solution would be get off the train at Orvieto and go up to the hill town to spend the night, but it's only an hour north of Rome. I would imagine you would want to get further than Tuscany on your first day so your next day isn't so long.

I would probably take the fast train to Milan (3 hours), change to a train to Como (about an hour) and stay somewhere on the lake. I think Varenna might be too much out of the way for a one night stop. Milan/Zurich takes about 4 hours.

Yes, Varenna is too remote. Therefore I mentioned Brunate. Hotel Asnigo at Cernobbio could be a good solution too (bus to Como, 3 miles from the Swiss railway station of Chiasso
