Need some recomendations on our Switzerland trip

This is our basic plan and we would like some tips on places to stay. We do not need first class, but we do not want a hostel either. Just a friendly people, comfy bed, warm shower, and a great view.
Sept 1st, 2nd, and 3rd: Murren
Sept 4th: Currently unknown, possibly Murren if we are not finished.
Sept 5th: Zurich
How soon should we book our rooms in Murren? I am not sure how busy it will be and do not know how far out I should book a room. We would like to see some more of the country so the 4th night is up for grabs. The last night we want to see Zurich and board the plane the next day around 4pm.
Thanks
J

Book now.

In Zurich, we liked our stay at http://www.st-josef.ch/

It is close to the train station from where you take the S-Bahn to the airport.

By the way, the S-Bahn from the main station to the airport is literally 12 minutes. It's awesome.

I can also recommend the Hotel Arlette if you are looking for a very reasonably priced hotel very close by to the Zurich main station. It is family-run, modest but clean, comfortable and efficient with a typical Swiss breakfast including fresh croissants, rolls, etc.

in Zurich, we would like to stay near some shops and some sights. we will have a swiss pass so we are not too worried about transportation. the old town section sounds cool. after 4 days of hiking, my wife will be itching to spend some money, so the shopping district would be good. problem is, I do not know where it is. thanks again

Zurich is really small. The main station is at one end of Bahnhofstrasse- the "5th Avenue" of Zurich. And right across the river, which you can easily cross over the may foot bridges, is the Niederdorf, which is more like the "Left Bank".

You almost can't go wrong. And have fun shopping. Zurich is very expensive- you won't have trouble blowing some serious dough.

Hi jlm43,

I sort of collect hotels for possible future stays -- so I haven't stayed in this one in Mürren, but it's on my list. Its' the Hotel Edelweiss, at this site:

www.edelweiss-muerren.ch/

Appears that rates ar 85 chf per person per night.

Hope you find good prospects!

Hi,

Concerning your 4th night... if you are moving on from Muerren, I'd suggest Lucerne for your 4th night on your way to Zurich. I can't see anyone wanting to leave the Berner Oberland though.

We loved our stay at the Edelweiss Hotel a couple years ago. OMG, the views from the room's balcony - spectacular! Literally overhanging the cliff. Very comfy beds, big bath tub. There is a no-fee computer set up in the nice living area, and a piano for those who play. This room has large windows overlooking the valley.

The restaurant is so-so, wouldn't eat there again for dinner.

But the outside terrace is terrific for an afternoon ice cream sundae or a drink. Get a table by the cliff.

Happy travels!

Has anyone stayed at the Eiger Guesthouse? Also, (first time to Switzerland so bear with me) what does half board/pension mean?
Thanks

halfboard: breakfast and dinner included.

The included dinner will generally include soup or salad, entree, and dessert, something like this:
- a special chef's selection for the evening, or
- a choice from several selections, or
- a choice from their menu
