Need some fresh intel on Rome

Hello everyone I'm getting ready for a trip to Rome in September and need a little updated information.

I'm looking into the underground tour of the Colosseum. I keep finding things from 2010 and 2011, but nothing current. There are a couple of ticket sites, but I can't tell if they are legit or not. I'm hoping someone who has been their recently or is there now can comment on the availability and cost.

Also are the guys dressed up like gladiators still around the Colosseum and Forum? What is the going rate for a picture with them?

Any other fresh intel is appreciated.

Thanks!

The official ticket site is http://www.coopculture.it/en/events.cfm?id=6
You just print out the ticket and take it to the Colosseum.

Yes, gladiators are still there. Don't offer more than 5 euro for a picture with them.

Pierreci used to be the official, but it's now coopculture. If you enter pierreci.it it will roll to coopculture as the official site. The actual purchase will be on tickietclic aka omniticket.

http://www.ticketclic.it/database/B2...efID=171&LN=39

After you select the date in ticketclic, you get a list of tours for that day (Colosseum or underground in various languages).

Yes, the gladiators are still there. I took a photo of one of them on his cell phone with a cigarette in the other hand.

Brillant. Thanks everyone. I don't want my friends to miss out on the modern Gladiators. (ThulaMama made me laugh, really hard)

If you are planning on visiting a few sites, buy your combo ticket at Palatine Hill or the Forum first and then you can just walk into the Colosseum with no hassles or lines. The combo ticket used to be for the three above and the National museum by Repubblicca.

>>>If you are planning on visiting a few sites, buy your combo ticket<<<

The OP was asking about the underground tour. When booking with the official site, it will include the entrance ticket. Entrance tickets are combo tickets good for two days Colosseum/Forum/Palantine. There isn't a combo choice or Colosseum only AFAIK. They say one entry for each area so you can't use it to visit the Colosseum two days in a row.

If you want to book entrance tickets only, no tours, on Coopculture/ticketclic/omni, it's a bit confusing. Click to buy single ticket (group tickets are for booking large groups, not families of 4-5) and it rolls to omni/ticketclick. Select English and the date. The top choice will be in Italian (yes, you selected English, but it's in Italian!). It's "ingresso singoli". This is entrance only tickets. The cost will be 12€ (normal two day ticket price) plus booking fee 1.50€.
