Need reviews for Hotel du Marais/ Hotel Rivoli

Both are one of the cheapest hotels in Marais, listed in Eurocheapo and Lonely Planet respectively.

I've googled for reviews but couldn't get through. If you guys have heard about theset two hotels, kindly advise.

Thanks. Have a nice day.

Here's Hotel du Marais:

Here's Hotel Rivoli:

if that's the Hotel Rivoli you mean. Go by the address, since several hotels have a similar name.

Hi Jane!

I heard about the Hotel du Marais but never stayed at it! What I heard was more positive than negative...
In the area of Marais, I also know the Hotel Central Saint Germain, where I ever have stayed for a few nights...and it was really a good hotel with staff very helpful...The location is great...We can't say that it is cheap...but reasonable for an hotel in this area...I give the website of you want to have a look: www.centralstgermain.com!
Good luck for your research and have a nice trip in Paris!

Jane-

We stayed at the Hotel du Marais (not to be confused with the more expensive Hotel du Vieux Marais) about 4 years ago.

The room was about as small as the one pictured on Eurocheapo. I mean SMALL. It was sort of drab, the shower was small, the towels were thin and the bed was a bit saggy.

However, it was the cheapest thing we could find in the Marais for our bargain-basement trip, it was quiet, the location was very convenient, and we had a blast.

We knew we weren't going to get a charming, luxurious hotel, so we were fine with it. It was safe and well-located, and we didn't spend much time in the room anyway. We were there in November, so I'm not sure if there is air conditioning.

There is a bad report on Trip Advisor about a price gouging incident here. We too had our faxed confirmation, and were only charged what we agreed upon. I'm a little confused by the price gouging complaint, since I thought France had strict laws about posting the amount for each room in the doorway of the hotel. Anyway, we didn't have any problems.

Thanks heaps, my dear Fodorites and friends. I think I will try Du Marais - the hell that I know may be better than the hell that I don't know!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Thanks for giving me, and other travellers, many great tips.

Will Travel, yes! It's the Rivoli I was trying to find out.

Donaldus, the St. Germain looks good. FYI: it's not 'the hell that i don't know'- I wasn't sure if the review about Hotel Rivoli was the one I was looking for. So I said I would choose Marais over Rivoli, not St. Germain.

Have a nice day.
