Need rental car help, Pisa or Lucca to Florence

In October my wife and I are training from Cinque Terre to Tuscany where we're staying at San Gimignano. I thought a good idea would be, train to either Lucca or Pisa, pick up a car for use around Tuscany and then drop it at the Florence Railroad Station where we would get a train to Venice. None of the car rental websites mention proximity of pick up/dropoff points to the stations. Does anyone know what car rentals serve these stations? Also, I'd welcome any input on which drive would be the most rewarding. Thanks

Hi JJ,

With whom are you dealing?

Did you call?

I suggest that you drive to Venice and drop the car at Piazzale Roma. You can't miss it.

Hi JJ863, well usually I agree with our Ira's thoughts but unless you want to stop along the way from Florence to Venice I would take the train. It is about 3 hours or less..if you are staying in Venice proper you will want to depart at the Santa Lucia Train Station in Venice which is along the Grand Canal.

I would phone..I believe Auto Europe is the preferred auto rental broker for rental cars in Italy. Someone will correct this information if I am wrong.

I can't help with the CT to San G part of your route but when you head for Florence from the San G area head towards Siena and go north on S222, the Chianti Road. Amazing views!

We left Cinque Terre by train to Pisa Airport where we picked up our car for our drive throught Tuscany.

If you want to get rid of your car in Florence, it may be a lot less hassle to drop your car off at the airport and take one of the frequent buses that take you to the main rail station Firenze S.M.N. (santa maria novella).

You can also look up the location of any rental car office on a mapping website such as http://viamichelin.com
If you go to their "Directions" function and choose options you can map a walking route from wherever the rental car location is to the "station" in the same town.

Here are directions re rental car office locations in Florence:
