Need recommendations for great hotels in Capri and Amalfi Coast

We are staying for 5 nights in Capri and the Amalfi Coast during the 2nd week in Sept. Would you do 2 nights in Capri and 3 in AC or other way around? I want hotels that really capture the Capri and AC experience (pretty hotel with water view from our balcony, place to eat overlooking the water). I wanted La Minerva in Capri but it appears to be booked. I hear good things about Ravello but only saw a few hotels listed. Any other tips to avoid mistakes, please let me know as this is our first time there. Thank you!

I would only stay at Quisisana on Capri.

This hotel is the old guard of the old guard.

It is the Everglades Club of Capri, Miss Thing.

Luna has a nice view and a beautiful pool/outside dining area, but the staff there is very snooty, even to people who went to Harrow and Dartmouth and have a house on Main Street in Nantucket and have seen the Snootiest things imaginable.

While I don't travel in the rarified circles of our previous poster, I can tell you only that the view from this hotel is lovely, and since you have not stated any price limits, perhaps it will suit:

If you go to Ravello the Pallazzo Sasso is a must. We also stayed at the Capri Palace in Anacapri. I highly reccomend it.The Quissisana is in an extremly congested area.

>The Quissisana is in an extremly congested area.<

Yes, that is the point. The Piazza Umberto is the "living room" of Capri.

Pull up a chair, sweetie darling.

I just looked into the Pallazzo Sasso and it is quite expensive. Can two people (1 room) stay in a nice hotel in Capri or the AC for less than $500 USD a night?

Yes, you can stay in a hotel in Capri or AC for less than $500/night.

I would recommend Hotel Cesear in Anacapri. The views are outstanding. I did stay at the Pallazzo Sasso and would say it is not worth the money. Try Villa Cimbrone in Ravello.

We stayed at the Hotel Marmorata on the Amalfi Coast last fall. Views to die for!! http://www.marmorata.it/

Yes, you can get a very nice seaview room for 350 euro, but not in early September at the ultra-luxury hotels.

The lowest published rate on Hotel Caesar's website for early Sept. is 450 euro. Even in low season the least expensive room at Hotel Caesar is 360 euro.

You are looking at some of the priciest resort areas in Italy.

This might work for you; Amalfi is a wonderful town:

Agree with Thin, I mean PP. The Quisisana is wonderful! Fantastic people watching at streetside restaurant/bar and yet the pool area, which is at the rear of the property, is lovely and quiet.

I am sure you are aware of this, but if you stay in Ana Capri versus Capri, you will need to take a bus (which requires a long wait at times and a 20 min or so drive) or a taxi (20 euros each way) to get up and down a very steep hill to Capri each time. I actually love Ana Capri, have stayed at the Capri Palace many times, (very romantic at night and lovely grounds) but I've also stayed at JK Capri and Quissisanna which were right in Capri and had a different, but equally enjoyable experience. Depends if you're looking for more "romance" or more "lively night life". Either way, you can't lose. And Positano or Ravello are lovely for A.C. areas choices to stay in.

By the way, I'd do 3 nights in Capri and 2 in the "other A.C. choice...there's just something magical about Capri, hence why so many love it and visit it over and over! And the time you're going is perfect...not as crowded as summer, but still great weather. Enjoy.

I, too, would do 3 nights on Capri and 2 on the Amalfi Coast.

In Capri, I'd recommend the Villa Brunella. The superior rooms have stunning views from private balconies; the balcony views from other rooms are somewhat obscured by trees, but you still have access to a large communal terrace with its absolutely amazing view. Quiet location, but a short beautiful walk into the center of town. Good luck!

In Ravello, the Hotel Graal is a great option. Rooms are small, but have fantastic balconies with the most classic/breathtaking view of coast. When I stayed there earlier this year, the welcome was warm, and the it was all I could have hoped for. Hotel is less than 5 minute's walk to the main piazza in Ravello, and it also has a very good restaurant.

We had a wonderful stay at the Covo dei Saraceni in Positano. Incredibly romantic and the pool was fantastic. Have a great trip.
