Need Quick Rome Help
 

I'm leaving today for Roma and unfortunately weather.com is showing rain, wind and thunder for the 3 days we will be there. We can of course take shelter in museums, but is there anyplace to go and people watch when the piazzas are rained out? One of my main goals for this trip was watching the world go by from sidewalk cafes...

4 pm, but we leave our house at 1 pm Eastern.

No practical advice but it most likely won't be as bad as the forecast. That's been my experience over number of years.

You could possibly people-watch from a good seat inside a cafe...
go to a shopping 'mall' or covered market...
go to the movies...

I love watching life come and go inside any coffee bar. Locals come and go at lightneing speed, slugging down an espresso nad then on their way. Older men congregate and linger over a caffe correto. Remember, you'll pay extra to sit at a table--for example 2 euro instead of 1 euro for an espresso--but on a rainy day, it's well worth it.

Churches are good for people watching. In larger churches you can watch the antics of fellow tourists from around the world. In smaller churches, you'll get the idea for local life--which women never miss mass, perhaps step in an a wedding or anniversary celebration.

Linger over lunch. Eat multiple courses and slowly.

Go to a supermarket and check the products in every aisle--you'll find some great souvenirs andsee another side of the culture.

There was a lot of rain predicted for my trip to Rome in March and we only had one actual day of rain....the rest were just overcast. Therefore, I would assume you will have dry time during your stay.

My trip last october called for bad thunderstorms everyday. It drizzled for about 2 hours on one day! We carried our umbrellas every day but didn't need them.

There really arent many sheltered places to sit and people watch unless it is an outdoor table at a restaurant under a market umbrella.
