Need Paris suggestions for well located twin room 100E or lower
DD and Nephew got last minute tickets to Paris for June 11-18. Having trouble finding them a decent budget hotel (they are 18) because of Air Show, etc. Really wanted to find them something in 5th or 6th ARRE, but that doesn't seem possible. Must have twin beds, A/C preferred. What other ARRE should we be looking in? Someone suggested youth hostel in Belleville, isn't that kind of in the suburbs, too far out? Please send suggestions, must book ASAP. Thanks!

Hi Ali,
Another poster has recommended http://www.france-hotel-guide.com/h75012lux.htm as a businessman's hotel. It is close to a metro stop. ((I)) |
Here are the answers you received on your previous post:
http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...ts-in-june.cfm |
I gave you several suggestions on the other post, I could name a lot more if you are not stuck with the 5th-6th. No, I would not suggest a youth hostel in Belleville. There are lots of youth hostels closer in, anyway, if you were going to choose one of those. There are lots of hotels with 100 euro twins, also.
I think the problem is the last minute thing in a very popular period. As I said, I would look in the 9th through 15th, things tend to be a little cheaper, as well as the 5th or maybe 2-3rd. the AC may be difficult in that budget, that may be a big issue, also. Here's another one down near Gobelins metro which is a good choice http://www.hoteldelesperance.fr/ |
These two hostels are a little further out, but both Oops hostel and St. Christopher's have good reviews (at least the last time I checked).
If they can't find a twin room, and they stay in dorms at age 18, that's not the end of the world. |
oh, you might check the Ibis hotels as they are large modern chain hotels so have lots of rooms, and a lot of them have AC in more budget ranges. 100 euro or less is even low for them, though, in peak season, in central Paris. The one at place d'Italie might have space.
I have never heard of a Paris hotel with a rate that cheap with AC, at least not during a peak time period, you may need to go up in budget to get AC or relax that criteria. |
Generally budget hotels in Paris don;t have AC. I think that will be a decision you have to make - either do without the AC or move up out of the ultra budget category.
|
Try plugging in your dates and budget at www.tripadvisor.com and see what hotels come up. Peeking in my most recent guidebook you might try: Grand Hotel Jeanne d'Arc, Hotel Lyon-Mulhouse, Hotel Daval, Hotel Sevigne, Hotel du Sully, Hotel du Loiret, Hotel Cluny Sorbonne, Port-Royal Hotel, Hotel de Mines, and Hotel de Nevers. I have no personal knowledge of any of these but they are recommended in a good guide book as simple one star hotels that might be within the budget. Good luck!

An apartmnt agency is willing to rent them for the week in Montmartre (760E) - what do you think of this apt & location?
http://usaparis.com/2P_Planquette |
Just a couple of weekends ago I stayed at the Alhambra (it's recommended here on fodors in the Destinations guide for Paris.
I paid 86 euros for a twin room and it is prefectly adequate for that price, if a little on the small side. There are no reviews on the Hotels section, but I do plan to post one when I have time. But here is a quick one for you... It is very close to Oberkampf metro stop, so easy to get around Paris from there on line 5. The bus stop for the 96 is 5 minutes walk and that takes you down to the Marais and over the river to the 5th and on to Montparnasse. I used that bus a lot as it was so convenient - you can check it out on the ratp website - I posted here earlier in the week on a thread about transport from Republique and gave all the links then (click on my name to find that thread). Anyway, the hotel has a manned reception at all times. The lift is small, the rooms are not spacious but mine overlooked the lovely courtyard garden (where you can take a bottle and have a drink and eat breakfast there). I could hear birds singing - it was delightful. The bathroom was small, the shower tray was about 2.5 feet square, but the shower curtain rail was sited about 6 inches in, so there really wasn't that much space in the shower and the curtain kind of clung to one's extremities - felt a bit Psycho! But the bed was really comfortable and it was quiet too. The curtains were well lined so I slept well. I was able to leave my bag for the day after I checked, and the location was such that it was not out of the way when returning to collect the bag. All in all, the location was very good and suited me well. I would stay there again. There are reviews on tripadvisor - most of them are reasonable. I think as long as the expectation is not too high then this hotel is really good value for the money. Oh, and also look at the Hotel Daval, which is close to Bastille. I had booked this last year for my daughter's 18th, but it was decided to have the party in England rather that Paris so the rooms were cancelled. However I did pass by to look at it, and it is in a very good location, actually better than the Alhambra, and looks very nice. I see KTtravel has the same hotels noted as I had, let me just say that the Hotel de Nevers in on the same street as the Alhambra, Rue de Malte, but it is further up at the seedier end, where I felt a little uneasy and would not want to be walking there at night. Rue de Malte is in 3 parts, the bit south of the Bvd Voltaire where the Alhambra is situated is fine, but north is not quite the same, getting worse the further up you go towards Republique. |
I had also filed away details of some real budget places in Paris, all around the Bastille/Marais area...

Here is a Paris hotel that does have air conditioning. Because we stayed there in February, I can't comment on how well it works. It's in the 9th, but in a good area.
http://www.marcianohotel-opera.com/h...ish/rates.html Look for the special rates. |
|
I stayed in a great place near Montparnasse its called Hotel Innova, I found it on hostelworld.com a few years back, no a/c, but each room has pretty big windows. I highly recommend it for the price and location. Its right in front of the Pasteur metro stop.

<<An apartmnt agency is willing to rent them for the week in Montmartre (760E) - what do you think of this apt & location?
http://usaparis.com/2P_Planquette>> Did you notice that the AC is OPTIONAL and adds another 25 euro per night (or 175 euro for the week) Unless they have some severe respiratory problem that requires AC, it is not likely to be necessary at the time of their visit. |
When I turned on my email this morning, the apartment agency sent me another note stating if I rent the apartment by Tues 5-26, they will rent it for 600E plus 120E in cleaning, agency fee, taxes, etc. The A/C is optional, only charged if you really need it. Please reply with comments on location:

Also received availability at Hotel Boileau in 16th ARRE - anyone familiar with it? It doesn't have A/C but kids are willing to forgo that as it has PLASMA TV (whoopee!) We have sent out many, many inquiries but having trouble because timeframe coincides with Paris Air Show.

Hotel Riveria on the edge of the 17th has doubles stating at 85E I believe. It is clean, safe, and in a friendly neighborhood with boulangeries, cafes, a FNAC, MonoPrix,an outstanding street market on Thursdays, etc. There are two very close metro lines and healthy people can walk to anywhere from there.
|
website is [email protected]
There is another Hotel Riviera so make sure you look at the one on rue Acacias. Also TravelNut has a place in the Bastille area I think if you want to search her posts. |
Didn't realize there was an air show in June - thought that was in the autumn. You may be up against the French Open, though.
The Montmartre apartment looks serviceable for a couple 18 year olds, they are young enough to deal with climbing hills and staircases. I would ask the street address before booking, though, and check out the immediate neighborhood. As is so often the case, the description touts the attractions of the Monmartre area but never really says exactly where the apartment is located. Also, note that the picture shows twin beds but the text of the description states double bed in the bedroom, if that matters. The Boileau looks fine, but rooms are likely to be tiny and the location is sort of out of the way. Would not be my first choice. As an aside, if they are old enough to go to Paris, maybe they can do some of their own research on accommodation? |
http://www.hotelriviera-paris.com/ oops other web address is for contacting them
|
Wandering, we are awaiting a reply from Hotel Riveria. That darn Air Show is driving up prices (100E for twin room) and making everything booked up.
|
aliska, have you looked at Ibis hotels? I just did a quick check and it shows twin rooms available at the Ibis Bastille Opera for 152.66 USD/night, just slightly above your 100 euro budget. Breakfast is additional $10.50 per person, but it is one of the few hotel breakfasts in Paris that is actually worth the price. I have been inside this property and it would be fine for them, and is well located. The Ibis Avenue d'Italie is also available and even cheaper - $123.46/night. It is further from the center but not in the boonies, close to a large shopping center and the metro.
Ibis is a tourist class hotel, not fancy at all but clean and well maintained. I would not hesitate to recommend either of these two properties for DD & nephew - but given the air show, would book ASAP. |
Proximity to sights isn't of the slightest importance to us. We stay in Antony (which is the same travel time to St-Michel Notre-Dame as RER Tour Eiffel is).
We luxuriate in a two-room suite for 125€/84€ (Mon-Thu/Fri-Sun) at hotel-alixia.com |
Oh - the reason we stay in the suburbs is because in lodging, you get to choose any two of: clean, cheap, and central.
|
Alsika- I just had another idea if nothing pans out tonight- Ratestogo has some incredible last minute deals. I can recommend them highly. We used it in Spain two years ago.We paid about 1/2 the going rate on great places. I think it is an Austrailian company but they will give you the rate in USDollars. You can book 21 days out I think. It is definitely worth a look. You can see what they have and then go to tripadvisor to see what people think of the places.
|
Well, I went to RatestoGo (no good tv tonight, ha!) and found a place that has a double room and rated fairly well on tripadvisor. It is Hotel Bellevue in Montmarte. 707USD$ for a double with continental breakfast. Only 1 room left at that price...Good luck...It does look like Paris is pretty full that week...There are other choices. This seemed better than most.
|
Wondering, I tried to book the Hotel Bellevue at that rate. Entered our information but it said I had "timed out". When I re-entered, the hotel is not available. On their web site, the rate is 1100E for a twin room for the week. Bummer!

There's the Peace and Love Hostel at 245 rue Lafayette in the 10th. Last month, I was staying with my best Parisian friend, who owns an apartment, on the same street, and almost right across from the hostel. So, I was curious about it and looked it up in case someone needed a hostel. It's gotten really good reviews, from what I've read. The area is fine. Rue Lafayette runs alongside Gare de L'Est and the Louis Blanc metro stop, Line 7, is down the street. I took that line as one of its stops is right at Galeries Layfaette, near Opera and that part of Paris. So, the 7 was convenient. The Louis Blanc station was about 3 minutes down the street from my friend's apartment.
Plus, the Canal St. Martin is about one block over from rue Layfayette. And it's an easy walk to the Republique area where there's a lot going on. My friend and I walked to Place de la Republique. As for getting a hotel in the 5th or 6th and for your price point, at the last minute, and in summer, I seriously doubt it. I'm a 6th person. Last week, spur-of-the-momently, I bought a ticket to Europe for August as I need to fly to Denmark to take care of some things. Air france was the cheapest airfare, out of L.A., so I'm routed through Paris. So, I figured I take some days in Paris, too. So, now I'll need to find somewhere to stay for 7 days, in Paris. If my friend isn't on vacation and I can stay there, then I will, as this was a spur-of-the-moment trip. I'm waiting to here back from him. I haven't done Paris, in the summer, for a couple of decades. I prefer going in the spring. As for prices, the lowest, on hotels that I've found, in the 6th, in the last week that I've been searching, in case I need a Plan B, have been starting at 134Euros. Now, one day, last week, Hotel de Seine, at 52 rue de Seine, had an internet special on their website, for 100 Euros, but a few days later it was gone. I stayed at that hotel for 9 years. It's on rue de Seine at rue Buci. You can check their website as the prices change everyday. You might get lucky. But, I don't know if they have 2 twin beds. When I was that age and traveling, and sometimes, a friend would be with me , and we just took what we could get....either twins or one big bed. So, the website is hoteldeseine.com. I've looked into apartments, too. They're around $200-$235 a night in the 6th. The ones that are less expensive are already booked. vacationinparis.com has one available in a great location, near Hotel Le Clement, where I've also stayed for years at $235. a night. The one that I've had before through them is booked. However, maybe you'll get lucky and be able to find an apartment at this late notice. A really nice hotel that I stayed in once was the Hotel Gotty Opera, in the 9th. It's a block from the Folies Bergere(sp?). That was my view from my balcony. It was in a quiet neighborhood and I felt safe. I'm female and travel alone. I looked up that hotel, last week, out of curiosity, and the price was quite reasonable. Good luck with your search. Happy Travels! |
One other site that often has cheap rates is www.hrs.de . The difficulty is that you can't specify whether you want a twin or a double. But so far I have had no problem getting the hotels I booked to give me twin rooms.
Another option is to book a 4* (or possibly 3*) hotel on Priceline. Although it can't be guaranteed they'll get two beds, they could take a sleeping bag along and alternate if they were so unlucky as to not be given a twin room. But most likely they would be given a twin room on request. Another possibility to consider is breaking up the stay to take advantage of cheaper rates for some days, because many hotels will have partial availability for these dates. Accorhotels.com is a great site. With a quick look, I see that there is an 89-Euro rate at Hotel Ibis Paris La Villette Cité des Sciences 19ème, for a room that specifies twin beds. All Seasons Paris Republiqué has a 102 Euro rate for a twin-bed room that includes breakfast and wifi. |
I was looking at June 12-18 for any specifics in that last post.
|
Wondering, SUCCESS! Re-tried again (3rd time) and we received confirmation and documents. Thanks so much!
|
G, swe stayed in a triple at the Hotel Clement a few years ago as well. Tried very, very hard to find the kids something in the 5th or 6th, to no avail. Hope the Hotel Bellevue I booked will work for them. At $700 for the week, its cheap, if nothing else. Montmartre should be fun, they have young legs.
Thanks everyone for all your help, we looked at DOZENS of places. The Hotel Bellevue looks to be close to Gare du Nord, how to take the RER from CDG? |
Great! Glad you found something for them. Happy Travels!
|
<<The Hotel Bellevue looks to be clos to Gare du Nord, how to take the RER from CDG>>
If these two kids are going to Paris for a week on their own, they need to start doing their own research and planning. Take a look at http://parisbytrain.com/rer-train-fr...e-cdg-airport/ That said, Hotel Bellevue is just west of the Barbes-Rochechouart area - and they would be well advised to stay out of that area. Best bet is to keep to the west/north of the hotel and determine the best transit routes to the rest of Paris. So, not recommended that they walk from Gare du Nord to the hotel, even though it looks walkable on a map. Following recent blog includes recent observation of this area http://www.myparisadventures.dk/1089...0and%20settled Make sure each of them has an under the clothing security pouch of some sort and knows to use it at all times. That means securing their passports as soon as they clear passport control, and securing cards/cash before entering the RER station at CDG. Many have placed these items in pockets intending to secure them later, only to report that they had vanished when they went looking for them. |
Glad it worked for you. That is quite a deal if TripAdvisor can be trusted. Ever since I started using the last minute sites and Priceline, I never sweat finding a deal! The RER out of DeGaulle is a breeze. But getting back and to the right Terminal was harrowing for me for some reason. I just had a lot of trouble following confusing signs. Tell the kids to give themseves extra time when they leave. If you post again questions on Montmartre I am sure you will get tons of advice. Tell them also to bring their student ids for reduced rates at many of the national sights. And yes, they need to be aware that there are pickpockets everywhere---My immediate family has had lots of personal experience with that! I hope they have a wonderful time!
|
aliska, glad you found a place - and a good rate to boot.
Let me echo djbooks' comment about the Barbes-Rochechouart area. It really has gotten pretty bad, and I am typically pretty intrepid. Last November we passed through and it was pretty darn seedy. But they can walk from GdN without transiting the nasty area - exit front of GdN onto rue de Dunkerque, turn right, stay on this street right to the metro stop Anvers and follow directions on hotel site from there. This is actually easier than using the Metro, which would involve either walking to the La Chapelle station or connecting at the nasty Barbes-Rochechouart station with all of its stairs. |
