Need Paris Hotel Suggestions for May
 

My husband and I are taking a Cosmos tour for 8 days May 16-23.

The tour ends in Paris on a Friday.
We are flying home from Paris and would like to stay 2 days extra in Paris and fly home on Sunday.

The final hotel is the Ibis Paris Berthier with a "Superior Tourist" room about 2km from Monte Marte, a bit out of the way of the things we would like to explore.

Cosmos wants us to pay $560 (USD) for the 2 nights extra we would remain at the tour hotel.

I think that it would be better for us to stay more centrally located and closer to the Louvre and Musee D'Orsay.

I realize we will spend some time changing hotels but it might be better than traveling back and forth to a hotel that is not in a good location.

Spanish was my high school language of choice and my husband can't remember any French. Language might be a barrier.

We are 54 and 59. I have a bad back so walking is hard and I'd rather save my back for sightseeing rather than traveling to a hotel.

We don't need a real fancy hotel but I'd like one that is clean and decent.

Does anyone have some suggestions for us? Or is the $560 for 2 nights a deal?

That's a ridiculous extra price for an out-of-the-way Ibis hotel.

You can often get Paris Ibis hotels for as cheap as 49 Euros per night, particularly out of the way ones. So no way would I pay $560 for that.

There are a million possible hotels to suggest, anywhere from the 60 Euro and up range. What sort of requirements do you have in mind?

I agree, that is an obsene amount of money for THAT hotel in THAT location.

We don't know what you want/like in the way of a hotel room so it is hard to say.

I love this little hotel on the left bank, about 170e for a nice room, great location to walk all the places you mentioned. There are a million others as well. I stay here when I don't rent an apartment.

I agree--bad price in a bad location!

Try the Relais Medicis, should be close to your price range, maybe a little more, around $300 a night, but worth it for the convenience. It's near the Odeon on the left bank, very convenient, also includes breakfast.

There are also many less expensive near Lux. Gardens. That is a much better location.

The options are endless...
Ibis has a lot of locations in Paris, but not in the most central arrondissements.

I think it's closer to 190 euros a night. That is the opposite of a "deal."

As everyone else has said, you can find a much better hotel in a MUCH better location for a better, or at least equal, price.

ps: I second the above recommendation for the St. Jacques and the Familia.

There is also the Hotel du Champ de Mars in the 7th, which offers doubles for 90 euros, some of which have an Eiffel Tower view.

Our family stayed at the" hotel de fleurie." We really enjoyed the location and the hotel itself. Its small and located off one of the busier streets but it had everything we needed. We walked to the Louve in about 20 min. You'll have to "google" it for the address

I'd stay more central, also, but that Ibis hotel is one of their better ones, I think (it has a pool). You cannot get a lot of Ibis hotels in Paris for 49 euro, they are usually around 70-110 euro. I think that Ibis normally has doubles for around 70 euro, though, so 190 euro is really kind of nutty. I wonder if there was some mistake and they doubled the rate they should have charged you.

I just looked at both the Ibis site and the Accor Hotels site (which seem to be the same) and both show 69 euro for the two nights you will be there or 49 euro if you do a prepaid, no cancellation rate. I was unable to bring up anything about a superior tourist room.

I've been told that when you book additional nights with a hotel via a cruise or tour package, you pay more as there is a "payback" involved to the agency.

Hotel le Clement...6,rue Clement...in the 6th district. Get a room on a high floor facing the street. It's on a quiet square and in the hub of a lot of things including two metro lines...4 and 10...and tons of buses. I've stayed in that particular neighborhood since the early 80s. I would NOT pay that amount for an IBIS... beyond ridiculous. In the 6th, you can also try Hotel de Seine at 52 rue de Seine. I stayed there for over a decade. Happy Travels!

Ibis Hotels offer rooms @ 49 euros ( by the way, the same room you are paying through the nose for - sheesh, talk about being ripped off!) The deals start on Friday, covers Sat & Sun if you wish.
We are doing a crazy choice of the Ibis La Defense simply because it looks huge and modern - also the metro is 100 yards away and takes 10 min. to Champs Elysees where other metro options are available.

If you are sick & tired of the Ibis Hotel chain by the end of 8 nights and want to pay a little more, how about the divine "chateau" hotel?
