Need Paris cemetery name!

I need the name of a cemetery in Paris France that would have been used by wealthy Parisians around 1872. I need the information fairly quickly for a story I'm writing, can anyone help me?!

I'm quite sure the cemetery you are referring to is the Pere-Lachaise, a most fascinating place. It was "acquired" by the city of Paris in 1804, from whom or what I don't know. Frommer's says all families tried to outdo each other in sculptures, etc., so it undoubtedly is the one you are looking for. It is certainly the most famous in Paris, practically the world, and is a most interesting place to visit today. 40 beautiful acres. Hope this helps.

Joyce, thank you for your help! The Pere-Lachaise sounds like just what I was looking for.

This is a fabulous cemetary to visit--has Jim Morrison, Oscar Wilde etc etc--eerie setting and not to be missed!

My 19-year-old daughter and I explored Pere-LaChaise three days ago—a fantastically atmospheric place, interesting on sociological, cultural and historical levels, also moving when one comes upon the graves of people who have brought pleasure, understanding, imagination into our lives. Chopin, Poulenc, Abelard and Heloise, Yves Montand and Simone Signoret, Maria Callas, and so many more. If you go, take the Metro to Pere LaChaise and buy a map for 10 francs in the flower store at the entry. Essential. This is a mind-expanding experience, and one of the best things we did in Paris. You will be climbing hills and walking on cobblestones, so wear those good ole' American walking shoes.
