My wife & I are planning to travel to France this September with our 4 kids (who are all below the age of 10). We're looking for an apartment in Paris for 4 nights. I'm not too picky re: location, as long as it's safe & has reasonable proximity to the Metro. We only need beds for 5, as our youngest will be in a portable crib. I've reviewed a lot of the different rental sites (including those recommended on this site), so was hoping someone could recommend a particular apartment that sleeps 5/6 that they've stayed in. Budget is around $200 US$ / night, give or take.

Perhaps pointless, as this post is now about a week old... and unfortunate... this first-time poster got no answers, nor any advice from Fodors (or anyone else) on how to even find his question again to see if it got any answers (or "top" it).

Anyhow, the Citadines Aparthotels might be a solution - - in the event that the original poster comes back and happens to find this.

sorry i didn't see your post the first time around.

we stayed in a 2-bedroom apt. in paris last april. it's in the marais (3rd arr.) and quite spacious - at least for our family of 3. there is a double bed, two twin beds, and a sofa bed. a family of 6 was there before us. it is extremely well located, near 2 metro lines and numerous bus lines.

See my post on our Paris rental in September 2004. It is owned by an American man and managed by Pascal Zytomirski at www.rentalfrance.com. on rue St. Paul in Le Marais (4th arr.) 1500 Euros for the week. We were 4 adults but it would be good for a family too. The living/dining room is larger than it looks in the photos so plenty of room to play. It is on the first "French" floor (second "American" floor). There is an internal secured courtyard where the neighbors left bikes and strollers. It is two blocks to Monoprix and near many cafes and casual restaurants and only 2 blocks to the Seine. There is double bed in one room, two twins in the other and a large sofa bed. There is a dishwasher and washing machine. The toilet is separate from the bath. Have fun planning your trip!

I have a question. When you say it has a "double bed" is that an American double? i.e. smaller than a queen? Or does it imply two twins put together. We are looking for an apartment in Paris for 4 and my husband and I could not sleep in an American double. Not even sure my kids could.

American double. Smaller than a Queen. But we liked it.

yes, same with ours, an american double size. bigger than the two twins together (they seemed pretty slim), but smaller than a queen.

Thanks for your replies, and I hate to belabor the point, but the double was bigger than two twins put together?? When we were in Italy this March, all of our rooms had two twins put together which was similar in size to a king. These twin beds in Paris must be very narrow. For those who have travelled in Italy and France is there a difference??

I'm surprised if two twin beds would be smaller than a regular double size bed in France. I have never seen that. In France you can buy single-size beds with a variety of widths, though (unlike in the US where there is only one standard size). I have never seen one smaller than 70 cm, though, which is half of a normal double size bed (140 cm). Most of them are around 90-120 cm. A 90 cm "twin" or single size bed is on the small side and used in small bedrooms.

i could easily be wrong about the twin size. these particular ones just looked mighty thin compared to what we have at home. the other double/"queen" bed was one bed, not two pushed together.

Thanks for the suggestions -- Unfortunately, they either have a minimum 1 week stay (I only need a 4-night rental) or our a bit out of our price range. I'll keep looking...

Hi Sav, I don't claim to be an expert, I only found this site a couple of days ago (and have done no housework or work since!!) but when I was looking for a place for our trip to Europe coming up, the one week minimum stay did cut out quite a few options. We have booked at http://www.apartfr.com
