Need Milan Hotel Help
 

Please...I need your help with a Milan hotel.After planning 4 weeks in Italy and trying to find the best hotel wherever we are, I am worn out. We fly out of Linate early in the morning. I was going to stay at an airport hotel but everyone has talked me out of it. Now I would appreciate your help in choosing a hotel:
l. need parking for the car
2. easy access to Linate airport
3. elevator (lift) if more than 2
floors
4. Price under 126 Euro for single.
175 Euro for double
5. Atmospheric hotel close to sights
hopefully with rooms a little
larger than normal as we all
have to pack.

Kathy when will you be in Milan? Because it makes all the difference in the world as to the hotel room rate-this one hotel I'm thinking of which is available in August jumps 120 Euros in September, and is still 30 euros more than in August-you're going to have difficulty finding a Milan hotel in September because I this is a time when a lot of the trade fairs are in town, and maybe even some fashion shows are going on then as well.

We will be there October 24, 2006.

Then try Hotel Gonzaga, on venere.com for 80 Euros a night for a new, very nicely appointed double, about 50 meters from Centrale, and right by the subway lines as well-so easy access to everywhere-plus there are a couple of good local restaurants within a couple of blocks of the hotel as well. It isn't atmospheric, but it is a real find in Milan, with its so-so hotels and high hotel rates.

I would not call it atmospheric, I would say it's a real find in Milan.

I'm not sure why everyone has talked you out of staying at an airport hotel, since Linate is just a 15 minute taxi ride to the center of Milan, or a cheap bus ride. .

You can quite easily check into an aiport hotel and then go into the city for some sightseeing and dinner. (The money you save on a hotel bill you can spend on a taxi back to the airport hotel after dinner.) It will greatly simplify what you do with your car and, obviously, it will make getting to your morning flight much easier.

To and From Linate
Linate can be reached by taxi (fare approx. 15 Euro) or by bus number 73 which leaves from P.za S.Babila every 10 minutes during the day (fare 1 Euro). A private bus line departs every 20 minutes for Linate from the Milano Centrale train station (fare 3 Euro). Travel time by taxi is about 15 minutes, by bus half an hour. In the area around Linate, there are several hotels with a shuttle buses.

If you want to look in Milano, focus on the San Babila area, although it can be pricey.

In addition to the 3 star Gonzaga, which I see is available for your date at 90 Euros/nt. double, you might want to try the 4 star Hotel Sanpi, with a garden, bar and other amenities of an upscale hotel. It's available for 170/nt. double.

PS: Gypsy's hotel recommendation may indeed be a real find and it is convenient to the private bus but I just don't like the train station area, which is generally seedy (although not truly dangerous) and far from any of the attractions that would make you want to spend a night in Milano. My feeling is you will end up taking a taxi to get back from dinner, and for another 10 euro, you might as well have the taxi take you to the airport hotel, and then you can sleep in late and you won't be dragging your bags one of Milan's less appealing neighborhoods at dawn.

(I love Milan, which is glamourous and full of treats. But the train station area ain't a lot of fun.)
