Need Luzern / Lucerne Planning Help

I will have a mid day Saturday to early Monday morning in Lucerne in late April. There is something I want to do, but not sure how feasible it is. That is the boat trip on Lake Lucerne. How much time would it take? I have no idea yet where it docks or how I would get there. Is there a fairly short cruise I could do Saturday afternoon? I am staying at the Hotel Rebstock. Are there several companies that do these cruises? Recommendations, Websites?

Sunday the plan is to meet up with friends in Brienz for a "day out" in the Jungfrau region. I hope this is not too much. Plan to leave on 7AM ish train from Lucerne to Interlaken, transfer to Murren, walk through Murren, take cable car to Schilthorn, lunch, cable car to Stechelberg, walk to see waterfalls, train Lauterbrunnen to Lucerne. I think this day will be fantastic if it is doable. What do you think?

When you leave the rail station the lake is right there so you will not miss it. Just walk across the street and you will see the places to check out the different options from length of time to types of boats. Enjoy your trip.

Hi hpeabody,

Here is a link to the ferry schedules for Lake Lucerne:

http://www.lakelucerne.ch/en/timetab...imetables.html

You can take a fairly short cruise from Luzern to Weggis, Vitznau, or Brunnen. Then you can either wait and take a return cruise, or return by train/bus.

I personally think it's a bad idea to travel all the way from Luzern to the Jungfrau region for a day-trip; you'll spend all day on the train. If seeing that region is important to you, why not just spend your time in the Jungfrau region and enjoy cruises on either Lake Thun or Lake Brienz? If you just want to see some mountain, there are some that are much closer to Luzern, such as Rigi, Pilatus, or Titlis.

Have fun as you plan!

swandav2000, just a note to thank you for your unfailingly helpful posts on this site. They are always direct, on subject, and when you offer a suggestion for change to make a trip better it is always so politely stated. You are a tremendous asset to the site and to all of us who seek help here.

swandav2000 Thank You for your reply. I looked at the website. If I understand it, There is a 1 hour cruise offered on the Yacht Saphir. That may be an option.

I know Sunday is a lot of train travel, that is why I am a little concerned. The purpose of Sunday is to spend it with friends out of Brienz.

wow, Julievikmanis, you really made my day!! You are so kind! I think I'll print this out and enlarge it, and read it when I'm feeling blue.

Thanks so much!

swandav, more praises for you. You have been a major help several times for my trip planning. For one, I recall Fuessen, Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Mittenwald part of one trip you gave a lot of excellent advice. We appreciate you!!!

+1 Re: swandav! Also agree there isn't enough time to do both. Just go to Murren, Wengen, Lauterbrunnen or Brienze and spend what time you have in that area. I love Lucerne but reality bites!
