Need Itinerary Help - Greek Island Hopping in early April

Looking to make a trip to Greece in early April 2007, about 1 or 2 weeks. Would like to know your comments on the following itinerary. Changes are very possible at this point. Please suggest other islands, hotels, days in each place, things to see/do. Do not want to stay in one place too long (max 2-4 days). Looking to travel by ferry. Only the time frame (early April) is fixed at this point. Not interested in the beach or cruise ships. Interested in Greek daily life, culture, food, wine, history, art, architecture, and night life.

Itinerary

Mykonos 4 days
Paros 3 days
Naxos 4 days
Santorini 3 days

Why only the islands? You are: "Interested in Greek daily life, culture, food, wine, history, art, architecture, and night life." It seems to me you would be more likely to find those things on the mainland than on four very commercialised islands during their off-season.

BTW, Greek Easter is Apr 8th this year, so it would be a wonderful opportunity to see them celebrate their most important holiday. You will have to have your transport for that weekend booked well in advance, though, especially anything leaving Athens at the beginning of the weekend and returning at the end.

Are you aware of Mykonos' current appeal for tourists? Group-tours, charter flights and honeymoon package deal-takers abound. You won't find much there other than high-priced boutiques, hotels and restaurants these days. Granted, it won't be so hectic in April and prices will be at their lowest.

You don't say when in early April you'll be travelling, but if your plans include Greek Easter weekend, April 6-9 be sure you have all your reservations confirmed and paid for ASAP, including hotels and ferry tickets, or you will be have a very difficult time of it for those few days.

Santorini and Mykonos both have group-tours, charter flights and honeymoon-package deal takers. In fact, I'd say the former had more.

I've been to both islands and in the above respect Santorini is no different to Mykonos. In fact, I found Santorini to be much more crowded than Mykonos was at the time of year we were there.

High-priced Santorini hotels and restaurants can match those on Mykonos. We found that out very quickly.

Boutiques apart, they are well matched.

Naxos and Paros while both have a lot to offer likley will be pretty quiet at this time of year. Not too many hotels will be open however the people you meet will be authentic.
Have you considered Crete. It is quite large and has lots of places to explore and should be a bit warmer in April.

Thank you Retsina. I hope brotherlee love doesn't think I was criticising him. The information he provides to users here that intend visiting Satorini is superb.

I just sometimes get a little weary of folks putting down Mykonos when it itself is a very nice island to visit with some very beautiful beaches and a town that is truly unique and in places visually stunning.

No offense taken. Your opinion is just as valid as mine.
