Forget the beaches any time in April--it'll still be too cool for sunbathing and swimming--unless you just want to walk along a beach. You won't find much nightlife in April in the beach resort areas--they get going in the summer. You certainly won't find nightlife in CT anytime of the year. Amalfi will be somewhat better, but April is still not the "in" season.
Actually, if you're into country/beach excursions in April, I think you can pretty much forget any nightlife. I'd stick to the bigger cities for that. And if you stick to the cities, a car really is pretty much useless.
Florence is my least favorite of the major tourist destinations in Italy--I found it to be the most crowded (though probably not an issue in April), polluted, traffic impacted, hectic place in Italy. I'd rather stay in a place like Siena and day trip to Florence. But that is a matter of personal taste, and lots of folks love Florence. I'm not a huge fan of Renaissance art, so that colors my view of Florence a bit as well since Florence is pretty much a one trick pony when it comes to art and architecture.

<< Then look at Bob's Five Favourite Itineraries. >>
Did something lead to a decision to "de-index" every post of Bob's that refer to the five favorite itineraries?
See http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34727480
Best wishes,
Rex
