Need information on Hammersmith, London accommodation..
Hello all,
I will be going to London early in May. A friend recommended the following inexpensive lodging for my stay: The Temple Lodge in Hammersmith, London (51 Queen Caroline Street). I tried calling this place, but the number may have been wrong as I was unable to connect at all. Have any of you stayed at this place? What about Hammersmith? Will it be easy for me to get to the center of London? Is Hammersmith a decent area to stay in? I plan on checking a few travel guides but you Fodorites have been very helpful before, so here goes- Thanks! |
Hammersmith is a good area to stay in, I have a friend who lives nearby. Hammersmith is where the underground interchange station is so you will have four underground lines to choose from. I think it is four stops to Harrods and eight stops to Pic. Circus.
I have been on that street and it is nice, but I dont know the lodging. Have fun. |
For convenience Natalia is 100% correct and easy for Heathrow and lots of buses as well as 3 tube lines (with 2 branches of District line). The river is fairly close (10 minute walk) and is nice to walk along the tow path with a couple of pubs. Shopping street is OK, but totally charmless. Overall area immediately around station is I think charmless, too dominated by large office block and major roads.

It's great overlooking the Thames where some of the pubs are. One we sat upstairs in an open area watching the water's passing parade of boats and people. Lots of nice houses with gardens.

Thanks to all of you for the information. I have called Temple Lodge but all I get is an answering machine so I may stick with my current booking at Thistle Kensington Gardens instead. More expensive yes, but at least it is more in the thick of things than Hammersmith.
