Need ideas for places to stop Nimes to Paris
 

On our way back to Paris from a stop in Nimes....could use some suggestions of places to stop and see before we get to Paris which is our last stop. We have a car.

I would take the main road and head to Burgundy.

Lois - how many days do you have for this trip?

As you know, we've spent about 6 weeks vacationining in the region just off the route du Soleil between Provence & Paris. There are some interesting places in northern Provence (Drome dept), and also in Beaujolais & Burgundy. However, I think you have already visited parts of Burgundy. Remind me about what sites/places you have already seen (I know about Dijon). North of Burgundy, we enjoyed Troyes and Provins, but not Sens. We're not fond of the region between Valence and just north of Lyon (like Lyon, however). I assume you don't want to head into the Alps - Chambery & Annacy are quite interesting.

Also, as I recall you're not real fond of visiting glitzy Loire-type castles. Do you like medieval castles? (lots in Burgundy & Beaujolais).

PS - I have many restaurant recommendations for Beaujolais & Burgundy - good values in Beaujolais.

You could go up through the Auvergne (le Puy-en-Velais)and the upper Loire valley (Apremont-sur-Allier, la Charité-sur-Loire, Bourges, Sancerre).

Thank you all...will be back after we figure how many days (or day) we have....yes Stu we were in Lyon and Dijon...(best meal we had in France in Dijon)...I am sorry I don't know the exact length of time but we are 2 couples and everything is up for discussion. Will be back.

A9, A7, A6 is around 6 hours to Paris.

It is a busy route, and not as scenic as you may think.

If you have time think of taking Nimes, Quissac (via D999), Le Vigan, St Jean de Bruel, La Cavalerie, A75, Millau bridge, Clermont Ferrand, A71, Bourges, Orleans, A10, Paris.

This is a long days drive, but has various worthwhile places to stop making it suitable for a 2 or 3 day journey.

It passes through the Cevennes National Park, then goes over the Massif Central. The route is quieter than the Rhone valley, more picturesque and toll free to CF (except the bridge).

With enough time you can visit Millau, Gorges du Tarn, Aigues Chaudes, and various other places on the way.
