Need hotel recommendations in Paris - budget about $200/ni

Hi all, friends of ours are planning their first trip to Paris in May 08. We've been to Paris many times and have asked us for hotel recommendations. Their budget is more than we usually pay so I thought I'd put the question to you all. They are willing to pay between $200 - $225 USD per night. Location is more important than luxury. This is their first trip to Paris and so would like their hotel to be centrally located, somewhere in Ars 1-7.

I know their are many fine hotels at this price point. I'm hoping fodorites can share some of their favorites.

Thanks so much.

There are more threads on this topic than almost any other question. Have you tried a search for "paris hotels"? That will give you dozens if not hundreds of threads filled with suggestions.

Try the Hotel Familia or the Hotel Minerve in the 5th.

I did do a search. Most of these threads are asking about a specific area of Paris. I am asking about a specific price of a hotel.

So, if you have a quick minute and have some experience you'd like to share of a hotel in Paris around the budget I've named I'd appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks!

The Hotel des Grandes Ecoles

is listing a room for two at 135 euros. My wife and I stayed there and liked it a lot.

The Hotel Residence Henri IV seems to fit your bill. At the moment it's in your friends' budget range and has rooms available in May. But it is popular and books up quickly.

Check out the Hôtel Mansart; if the Euro/dollar is a bit better by May the hotel might be affordable. It's in the 1st, just off the Place Vendôme and sharing a wall with the Ritz. It's a good 3* place with nice rooms furnished mostly with antiques. On the same block are a pharmacy, an ATM, and a post office, and restaurants and cafés are nearby.

Hotel Royal, Montparnasse. It's at 212 Blvd. Raspail. I give the address because if they google it, there is more than one Hotel Royal in Paris. It's in the 14th but there are four metro stops very close by. It's also very close to the Monparnasse station so getting to Versailles for example is very easy.

It is also very close to Bon Marche and it's not terribly far from St. Germaine and the river. I will say the river seemed a lot closer going than returning to the hotel after walking all day. LOL Anyway, very nice hotel, about 140 euros, at least last year.

Two places that we stayed this summer that are in that range are the Hotel Muguet in the 7th and the Hotel Britannique in the 1st. Both were great! Our rooms in the Muguet has fantastic views of the Eiffel Tower and Invalides. The Britannique didn't have any views, but was a beautiful hotel in a great location.

Hotel Le Regent in the heart of the 6th. Standard rooms are fairly small and dark, but the deluxe and superior ones are wonderful. Location couldn't be better.

Thanks so much for all your good recommendations. I am going to forward them to my friends. I'm sure he'll have a look at tripadvisor too but I will let you know he decides. Thanks again!
