Need hotel or B&B recommendation in Florence
 

I will be travelling to Italy (Rome, Florence, Venice) on 10/11/07. Our accommodation needs are taken care of in Rome and Venice, but we would truly appreciate some help with Florence. We're thinking more along the lines of a B&B since we are staying in hotels in other places. Thanks for any advice on a B&B. Would be delighted to hear what you have to say about restaurants and other tips as well.

It's not called a B&B, but we stayed at the very cozy Hotel Enza, close to everything and very friendly helpful staff. Loved the breakfast in the morning too. The rates say about $80/night for a double during the high season.

We paid 130 euro/night at the Relais Grand Tour B&B in October. Loved every single thing about it! We stayed in the Actor Suite, but all the suites are sensational. A very special place!

I can highly recommend Tourist House Ghiberti, around the corner from the Duomo. Lovely big rooms with free internet and flat TVS, extremely comfortable. TouristHouseGhiberti.com

Based on previous recommendations from IRA, we're booked for several days at B&B Peterson in June. Can't wait!

I really liked B+B, In Piazza Della Signoria and I'm picky. Wonderful location and a thoughtful, very nice staff. The breakfast was excellent. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again and again and plan to.

Hotel Europa was wonderful. It is family owned. We had a suite and it was reasonable. It is smaller and you get to know the family that runs it. Miriam and her husband speak English beautifully (well he's from England) and Miriam's dad, Hassim is the owner, I believe.

The breakfast spread was very good. There is internet at the front desk. It is an easy walk to every place. It is halfway between the Duomo and the Acedemia.

I know this is a little late, as I've only gone to Florence on may myself, but I'll leave my opinion for future reference, if anyone needs it. I was brought to B&B Peterson mainly by its price, and also by some good reviews I'd read on the net (even on this forum, which is very helpful). I have to admit the room was fine, large enough, had a television, and the bathroom was ok. One day, though, as we got back to the hotel and were ready to take a shower and go to bed, we found out there were no towels in the bathroom - yes, the cleaning lady simply forgot or deliberately did not replace the towels. The thing is, there is no one you can contact at that time, so the little towels we had packed had to do it (imagine if we hadn't packed any).
Also, and this is the worst, the following day, late at night, someone buzed in. As each room is given one key to the building, floor and room, even though that woke me up, I just thought someone's room mate was locked out. The thing is, some of the guests opened the door and I could hear a couple complaining about having reservations there - they even tried our door to check if it was open!!! (just imagine if by accident it was). So, I realized we would be safe just as long as the other guests were responsible enough not to let just anyone in.
If you're willing to take a chance anyway, it was an ok place.

wow, guys.. I'm going to have to go back to Florence just to stay at some of these places! :) They all look great. Especially, LucieV, the Grand Tour! Wow!
