Need Hotel of Great Charm in St. Germain
 

We are looking for a well located hotel in Paris for late November. Can anyone please help with small, nice hotels in the Saint Germain area. We would like to keep price range between 800FF and 1300FF. Merci beaucoup!!

The Hotel Luxembourg has been much criticized of late, on this forum and apparently on the "Cheap Sleeps" website. However, the Verneuil, and also the Hotel Jardins du Luxembourg have been much praised, may be just what you want. Also look into <BR>the Danube, the Lenox, the Fleurie, <BR>le Regent, so many others. You can also do a Search on this forum for Paris romantic hotel and find some of the many suggestions on this forum.

I would recommend you consider the Hotel Louis II, the Hotel de l'Odeon (both on rue Saint Sulpice), the Hotel Relais Saint Sulpice, Hotel le Saint Gregoire or Hotel le Regent. These are all small, three-star hotels in your price range and pretty high on the charm meter. I think you can view most of these on www.hotelboulevard.com or www.smallandeleganthotels.com (www.webscapades.com also has a nice list of boutique hotels). I think the Fleurie and Clos Medicis are good possibilities, also. Not sure what you mean by great charm but most people want somewhat period style furniture/decoration when they use that term, and I believe the Hotel Jardins du Luxembourg is a good value budget hotel that a lot of people like, but I think it is rather modern in style and not what some might consider charming (it's not in St Germain, but the Latin Qtr near the Pantheon).

the Relais Christine hands down - won't be disappointed - can book thru Sterling Hotels at 800-637-7200 or look up in the internet for their e-mail address. Very popular and always booked but do try. <BR>

In response to Christina's post above: I stayed at the Hotel des Jardin du Luxembourg in April; it is a three-star hotel and costs 810-860FF. Christina's characterization of this hotel as modern and not charming is entirely wrong. It is quite small (~25 rooms) and very charming. The decor is colorful and the furnishings, while not "antiquey," are not clean-lined, modern, or plain in cookie-cutter hotel style. Each room is furnished differently, and the public areas are also entirely charming. There are several photos at www.pariserve.com, and I can vouch for their accuracy. The rooms are small, but the bathrooms are huge by Paris standards, with excellent fixtures (we had a seven-nozzle shower with its own room) and colorful, mosaic-style tiling. Some higher-floor rooms have balconies. The cul-de-sac that the hotel is on is completely quiet at night. It is in the 5th Arr., just two blocks from the Jardins du Luxembourg and right on the border of the 6th arr. in a handy location. I certainly recommend it to anyone looking for a charming, well-located hotel in Paris.

We liked the Hotel Verneuil a lot a few years ago. Small rooms but a nice breakfast room, and dynamite location. Not a good place to try to park a car, though.

Mark, Try the Hotel les Marrioniers &lt;spelling may be a little off&gt; It is superbly located! Just off St Germaine des Pres...around the corner from the street of the butchers &lt;in French&gt;.In a quiet courtyard...the rooms are great..it has a garden breakfast room.It may have a web site,We loved it!

We just returned (Mon) from Paris- stayed at the Hotel Millesime afew doors down from Nancy's Marrioners. Aquiet street 2 blocks from Eglise Saint Germaine, Les duex Magot, Cafe Flore, etc and around the corner from Rue de Buci-a street of open markets. On the corner of Buci and rue de Seine is Paul's-the best bread in Paris,IMO.
