Need hotel in Venice A.S.A.P.

Can anyone recommend a hotel in Venice up to 300,000 lire per night. I tried most of the hotels listed on various sites and all were booked except the very expensive ones. We will be staying for two nights the end of September. Please also advise email, fax # or telephone #. Would prefer not to stay in Lido. We will be arriving by car.
Thank you.

Rose,

Did you try the Hotel Kette or the Pensione Segusa? I have stayed at both-the Kette is a very nice hotel; the Segusa a more modest family pensione. Good luck in your hunting; have a wonderful trip.

In addition to those already recommended, I can recommend the American and the Bel Sito.

Good luck...

Try the Hotel Bisanzio, you can find it a bestwestern.com

It is probably a bit more than you were looking to spend but it's very nice and only 5 minutes from San Marco.

Good luck.

Rose,
I've stayed at La Calcina in the Zattere area twice (near the Seguso) and absolutely love it. If you get a room with a view of the Giudecca Canal it's glorious. Last October it cost 240,000 Lire.

Try the following site: http://www.venere.it/venezia/bellini/bellini.html

I stayed here before and it was incredible. It is a renovated 17th century palace, literally 50 ft. from the train station. Considering we had severely overpacked, it was an oasis! The rooms are so comfortable. Private bath with gold fixtures and a deep tub. Antique armoires and if you are lucky enough (we were!) to get a front room, your window opens up to the grand canal. Our room also had an upstairs bedroom, so we could have slept two more people. The cost varies from low season to high, from 200,000 to 480,000. We got a better deal through our travel agent. We paid only 240,000 for a front room during high season. They give discounts if you present a business card as well. I would definitely recommend Hotel Bellini.

Pensione Accademia is wonderful. Sorry, I don't know their website.
In 1997 we paid about $150 for a twin.

Try the Pensione Calcina. An excellent hotel at 240,000 per night. Here's the vitals:

The "venere.it" site for bellini is part of a more general solution - - www.italyhotel.com - - this site works very well, in my experience.

Once you're having trouble finding a room, maybe the most effective action would be to contact the Association of Venetian Hoteliers directly and use their central booking service. You set your requirements and let them find a room that will meet them. If you're staying only 2 nights, it won't make much difference in which part of town you'll stay (I agree with you staying in the Lido only in desperation). You may contact them online at
http://www.veniceinfo.it/

If you want to keep trying on your own, you may consider the Locanda Rimedio. This is a superior 2-star located in Calle del Remedio, San Marco 4412, a very convenient quiet spot (5min from San Marco, 10min from Rialto and 10min from San Zanipolo church, very close to Santa Maria Formosa). Be sure to ask Renato for a room upstairs (the 2 rooms he's got downstairs are smaller and the windows being too close to the canal must be kept closed ... slight danger of getting visited by rats). Tel: 041/5206232, Fax: 041/5210485. I would call ... If you fax and the hotel is booked up you might not get an answer ...
A second hotel I would recommend (slightly over your budget at Lit 340,000) is the Flora. You may try to book online. See

All I can say is don't stay the the American, it's dirty and has bathrooms only slightly larger than airplane bathrooms.

We just got back from Venice this week. We stayed at the Hotel Montecarlo and it was fantastic. Nicest hotel on our trip. It was 1 block off of St Marco square. 250,000 a night with breakfast and AC. (the AC was nice to have in August)The rooms were recently remodeled and were comperable to US hotel standards. Nice marble bathrooms, beautiful furniture and bedspread. Let me know if you enjoy it as much as we did.
