I recently booked Markus Sittikus based on what I saw on the 'net and when I got there I felt like the info about its location did not match my understanding of the map they presented. I'm not saying that they deceived me, maybe I was just dense.
.
So, on the same trip I wandered into the Hotel Kasererbrau (http://www.abserv.co.at/abserv/hotel...er/welcome.htm)
and felt like it was equally good, similarly priced and much better location. It is near Weisses Kreuz (I think this is the name) which is cheaper, if memory serves me correctly, but they did not have availability for the dates I need (next summer also), whereas Kasererbrau did.
.
Best wishes,
.
Rex

We stayed at the Zur Goldenen Ente in August 1999, it was recommended by Rick Steve's. Great location in the old part of town with a friendly staff. We paid ~$80 for a double room with private bath, it included a nice breakfast. We also had a nice dinner at their restaurant. Here is a link to their website: http://www.systemverwaltung.com/salz...nte/index1.htm

We stayed at Pension Nonntal two years ago in the summer and liked it very much ... specially considering that we paid only ATS 1,100/night and got a huge suite with bedroom, living room, complete bathroom and a balcony to the garden. Superb breakfast and very nice (and active) landlord Otto. Only possible drawback (not for us though) is the location, approx 10 min walking to town center, but with public transportation means close bye. We thought it to be a plus because it was very quiet outside the city center noise. You may book online.
http://www.salzburginfo.or.at/topic_...al/first_e.htm

Paulo
I agree with Paulo---as I usually do.
The Pension Nonntal is hard to beat if you are driving. Otto is a piece of work
and we took his package deal that included very nice dinners and the Salzburg Card--a good deal if you plan to stay at least 3 nites. Book well in advance for June---good luck !

Help guys! I tried the web site for the Nonntal establishment and all I got was screens of computer code, either C or Java. I did not read enough to decide. So any suggestions??
Rex,
Isecond thr thumbs down on the Markhu Sitikus. I researched it on the net, too. Sure has an impressive site!

If you have a car: Try Berchtesgaden, Germany instead of Salzburg for accomodations. Great town, plenty to see and only a short drive into Salzburg. We have done that on each visit to Salzburg and it has worked out very well. Watzmann is a good place to stay in Berchtesgaden as is the Post Hotel. Just a thought.

Berchtesgaden is good idea. I was in Salzburg many, many years ago (45 to be exact) in my student days. I still have the pictures, but my memory is a little dim. I recall staying in a little hotel by the stock yards because I took rooms based on one factor: cost!! It was fun because I was totally on my own, and in a foreign land, for the first time in my life. Fortunately, I could speak enough German to talk to the local people a little. As I recall, the train schedule between Salzburg and Berchtesgaden is not too shabby.

Strange, Bob. What browser are you using?

Try http://www.salzburginfo.or.at and then take it from there. When I do it with my browser it automatically switches to a frame version at URL
http://www.salzburginfo.or.at/desk/frame_home_d.htm

In any event, this site has extensive info on Salzburg.

Paulo
Paulo: I was using an older Netscape at the time. I will try it from my office where I have the latest and greatest from Netscape according to our systems guy and see if I get more Java gibberish or useful info.

Bob Brown Nov 9th, 1999 06:52 AM

It was the browser version that casued my problem.

Paulo Nov 9th, 1999 07:58 AM

I also had to change my browser recently, Bob. When Fodors started java encripting the author's line my old browser was not able to handle it appropriately. I also got junk here and there when visiting pages coded with JavaScript.

Paulo
