Need hotel in Rome, Cinqua Terra & Venice
Hi, I am looking for accomodations in Rome, Cinqua Terra & Venice. Please let me know if you can recommend a decent, centralized hotel for under $100/night. Thanks!

Hi kct,
Is that a single or double? What are your requirements? Have you done a text search "Hotel AND (city name)". |
Hi Ira, I am going with my husband so we will need a double. I have looked at a few websites but since I have never been to Italy, I'm not sure if the hotels in our budget are in a good area. That's why I wanted to post a request for recommendations. Thanks!

Ira,
I'll be watching your answer also for Cinque Terra. Our budget is higher because there will be 6 of us. Right now we're thinking of staying in Monterossa (sic). |
venere.com is a popular website for "shopping" hotels in Italy (and elsewhere). You can look by price.
For Venice, any area EXCEPT Mestre and Lido-neither of which are actually IN Venice, will be reasonably central as the city is small. As Ira says, you can do a search on this board. I'd try for example inexpensive hotel AND venice in the search box. Don't forget tripadvisor.com for checking reviews. Here are a few Venice hotels that have been mentioned on this board but the prices may be out of date. Hotel San samuele 3358, San Marco tel/fax 041 522 8045 88-100e with bath www.chiesavaldese.org/venezia. (Foresteria Valdese) Castello 70e with bath Hotel Bernardi-Semenzato in Cannaregio (parallel to Strada Nova near Camp SS. Apostoli) 85-90e with bath 041 522 7257 some annex rooms overlook the canal & will be upgraded They all probably have websites too. |
Forget a hotel in 5 Terre, rent a room. www.cinqueterre.it
Venice is tough at your price range. We liked www.hotelgalleria.it, right on the grand canal, great location away from the tourist center in Dorsoduro, large room with private bath (large by venetian standards!) 145 euro. May also want to check in b&b's for your price range. |
Not sure how central you have to be, but the Hotel Sant'Elena is a 4-star at the eastern end of Venice. www.hrs.com shows it at 95 euro a night double for April. Taxes and breakfast included. About a 20 minute walk to P. San Marco or 10 minutes by vaporetto.

We stayed at the Locanda Barbarigo in their best room off season earlier this year for 100 euros, it is much more in season. Great location (adjacent to Grand Canal), beautiful rooms, lovely owners, 5 min walk to San Marco.
