Need Hotel in Besancon FR
 
I will be attending a conference in Besancon next May. Any good hotel recommendations? We need to be close (5 min walk) to the Kursaal and we would like a 3 or 4 star hotel.<BR><BR>Would also love some restaurant recommendations.<BR><BR>Thanks!!

Topping -- 3rd time's a charm? Doesn't anyone ever go to Besancon? Is it a tourist-free zone?<BR><BR>THanks!!

Besancon,(Bersanson to the natives), delightful city with very interesting roman ruins. The town centre is mostly pedestrian, which we found out the hard way, but there is a charming hotel,entered through a roman gateway off the street, small cars only!! Unfortunately can't remember the name. There must be a web site which would list the hotels. I think it has been mentioned on previous posts.

Besancon is also Victor Hugo's birthplace, and this year France is celebrating the great man's 200th birth anniversary. So this charming, but a tad austere city might have been jazzed up a bit. Besancon is the capital of Franche Comte, a region which has its own tourist authority on the web. So you might get lucky there...
