Need hotel in Bailieborogh, County Cavan, Ireland. Must be in town.

For an extended family trip in July 2016, I'm looking for a hotel in Bailieborough, County Cavan, Ireland. Due to Ireland's age limit (75 yrs) on car rentals, we need a hotel "in-town" so that the seniors in our group are centrally-located. There seems to be only 1 hotel in Bailieborough. Is there another city/town nearby? I’m not familiar with the names of towns nearby – any suggestions will be helpful! Thanks.

There is only 1 hotel in Bailieborough looking on line. Have you considered Kingscourt which is only a short way off and has a couple more options?

Have you tried Dooley or Budget for car rental? The 75 rule is tied to the Insurance underwriters and can be arranged under certain circumstances subject I think to a doctors certificate of health?

The nearby towns, each less than 10 miles away, are Kingscourt, Shercock, and Virgina. All of them (like Bailieborough itself) are small.

This part of Ireland does not draw large numbers of tourists, so the accommodation options are limited.

It's not automatic that someone 80, for example, can rent a car, but there are provisions where someone over 75 can with proper documentation and advance arrangements. You need a medical certificate from a doctor saying you are qualified to drive, and testimony from current insurer that you have no accidents and have been driving the last 5 years or something like that. see https://www.irishcarrentals.com/booking/faq_index.php
