Need help with trip through Scotland, England, Ireland!
 

If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated! We are two single women flying into London but from there we are traveling to Nottingham, York, Edinburgh, Stirling, St. Andrews, Inverness, Dublin, Bath, and back to London in that order. We are not renting a car and so I need best routes if possible. Plus, I'm completely lost in finding a way to get from Inverness to Dublin. Thank you for any tips you can provide its truly appreciated!

Well, there is a ferry from southern Scotland over to Dublin. If you could get a train to Glasgow to fly or to Stranraer for the ferry. Take a look at these websites and see if they help any:

The other alternative is to fly on either Ryanair or Easyjet which is very inexpensive but you need to be cautious of the airport name. These flights tend to fly in and out of smaller airports, not the international airports, i.e., Glasgow Paisley and Glasgow Prestwick. We made that mistake a couple years ago.

I just found that you can fly from Inverness to Dublin on British Midland Airlines. Do your search on http://www.airgorilla.com/

Sounds like a super trip. We loved Scotland, been 2 times in 5 years. Hope this information helps and you have a wonderful time.

Karen : I've never heard of Glasgow Paisley - do you mean Glasgow airport as opposed to Prestwick airport ? I know Ryanair & Easyjet use some obscure airports, often miles a\way from the town they're claiming to serve, but Glasgow airport is definitely a proper airport - and nearer to town & hence easier to get a bus to than Prestwick.

dhb : you can also fly from Edinburgh to Dublin with Aer Lingus or Ryanair. Check their websites to see which would offer the cheaoest and/or most convenient one way ticket for your date.

If the Inverness-Dublin bmi flight (www.flybmi,com) doesn't suit, I think it would be easiest for you to get the train straight from York to Inverness, then come back to Edinburgh via St Andrew's & Stirling, & fly to Dublin from Edinburgh.

N.B. the train doesn't actually go right to St Andrew's but to Leuchars, where you alight & get a bus or taxi.

For crossing to & from Ireland ALWAYS check aer Lingus - their prices are very competitive & they use proper airports unlike Stansted.

You could take a ferry from Dublin to the UK but it'll probably be just as easy to fly to London then go to Bath as it's an easy day trip from London

The ferries from Scotland go into Belfast - <u>not</u> Dublin. If you want to add Northern Ireland to your itinerary that works, otherwise flying makes much more sense.

Also Ireland to Bath isn't all that easy. You can fly into Bristol - but then you have to take a train or bus to Bath. I agree, depending on how long you are in London you might just want to do it as a day trip from London.
