need help with travel to milan italy
i will be flying from barcelona spain to milan italy on october 2nd. I didn't do my homework and found out the malls are closed on Sunday. what is the best and inexpensive way to travel from the airport to the city? I also need a very inexpensive hotel in Milan. We would like to rent a car and travel to Bologna for a day trip is that recommended?

The most inexpensive way to get from Malpensa to Milan is by train. It's called the Malpensa Express, and leaves from the airport and takes you to Milano Cadorna station downtown. It cost 11 euro one-way and 14.50 euro round trip.

Roxy -- you may want to be more specific about what you consider to be a "very inexpensive hotel". People here need budgets to be able to make good recommendations. I've never been to Milan (it's not an inexpensive city), so sorry I can't help.
Also, check out www.venere.com -- it's a great website with hotels you can check out by price and location. I've booked with them before and had good results. Jules |
sorry jules4je7-first "time user". my idea of very inexpensive is under $100.00. I will try the website that you suggested.
thanks. |
Hi F,
It would be much cheaper to take the train to Bologna - 10E each way. See www.trenitalia.com ((I)) |
The website is excellent - I tried to book a hotel recommended here (Hotel Lloyd), and my offer was rejected by the hotel. Venere then sent me offers from similar hotels and I just ended up with a hotel that seems to be a bit better quality, for 79EU a night. Click on my screenname and look for my recent post on Milan hotel recommendations.

Hi foxy, if you want to get to the Central Train station in Milan from Milpensa airport there is the shuttle bus. It runs about every 20 to 30 minutes. If you want to go to Bologna for a day trip I too would suggest you go by train. Have a fun trip!

And the costs of the train to Cardona station and the shuttle bus to Centrale station are about the same.

A friend and I went to Italy, landing ON Christmas day. Yes, EVERYTHING was closed in Milan. However, the shuttle bus from the airport was running and we had no problem getting into Milan and to our hotel, so I doubt you will have any problem on a normal Sunday. Finding a restaurant that day for dinner was a different story...
