Given your interests -- and noting that they are VERY different than mine -- I think you may have found a good plan!

As someone who LOVED Ortygia AND Noto, I can't help but urge you to think of ways to ensure that your plans give these places enough time to savor them -- e.g., by making sure that you leave for Ortygia ASAP on Monday. JMO. And by way, DO check the hours of anything you want to visit -- some places may be closed on Mondays.

"I still cannot figure where to drop off a car on the way to Pozzallo, and a convenient way to transfer to ferry port."

You might ask your hotelier in Siracusa.

Enjoy!

Kja, great, thank you for this!

I am waiting to for September ferry schedule to be posted. If a ferry goes on Thursday, we will have another day around Ortyga.
Another option is to take a late ferry on Wednesday, so still give us more time.

Yes, I will check all open/close schedule before we go, I normally pretty accurate about this.

Asking a hotel, actually is a good idea, Thank you!

I'm glad you found my comments helpful, Helen. And I hope I have made up, at least a bit, for my initial, unthinking response to another of your recent trip threads? I still feel bad about that....

Our Sicilian trip is only a month and a half away, so I wanted to share my final plan, and hear your last minute suggestion on minor tweaks, driving, stops, restaurants, festivals, or any other thoughts that would be greatly appreciated. So, here is the plan:

Flying to Munich on September, 4. Overnight in Munich.
09/06 - arrive to Catania in the afternoon, transfer to Taormina
09/07 - Taormina/Castelmolla
09/08 - rent a car in Taormina, drive to Cefalu stopping in Savoca
09/09 - 09/11 Cefalu (From here we will take two day trips to Palermo/Monreale (train), and possibly a short trip to Caccamo)
09/12 Saturday - drive to Madonie, visit Castelbuono, Petralia Soprana, Petralia Sottana, and Gangi . Overnight at Gangi, Agritourismo
09/13 Sunday - drive toward Enna/Piazza Armerina - overnight Piazza Armerina (Agritourismo)
09/14-09/16 Siracusa (Ortyga) with day trip to Noto and/or Ragusa
09/16 - Late night flight to Malta
09/17-09/18 - Malta
09/19 Fly home

Thank you for your help!

Hi, helen!

Given that you made a decision in advance to skip Sicily's ruins (right? honestly, I haven't taken the time to review all the posts above, so please forgive me if I've lost track of things we've already discussed!), my initial take is that you have a plan that should, in general, suit the interests you have stated. A few tweaks might be in order -- or not! Sicily is hard, IMO -- too much too see, and too much that really depends on personal choice. Just a few questions / suggesions:

>From here we will take two day trips to Palermo/Monreale

I encourage you to give yourself as much time as possible for the cathedral and cloister of Monreale's cathedral! FWIW, I think I spent close to 3 hours there -- I think that's at the high end.

I'm sure you know that a day trip or two to Palermo / Monreale will limit you to a very select number of very high priority sites. I would make Monreale's cathedral and its cloisters the very top priority, but Palermo has a TON of worthy sites, IMO -- I wish I'd had more than the 2.5 days I gave it! -- so prioritizing your limited time there would serve you well.

>drive toward Enna/Piazza Armerina

I'm not sure what the routing options are, but if seeing the mosaics of the Villa Romana del Casala are a priority for you -- and those mosaics are, IMO, among Sicily's most awesome gems (and Sicily has MANY gems, IMO), then be sure you plan a route that makes that possible, whether it includes Enna (which is very nice, but skippable, IMO) or not.

09/14-09/16 Siracusa (Ortyga) with day trip to Noto and/or Ragusa

So you have 1 full day, a bit of the day before, and most of the day after, for Siracusa and a day trip to Noto or Ragusa? Even I don't try to travel that fast -- and I travel fast! But we do travel to see different things.... Even so, you might want to explore options to add a night to Ortygia, or to have a Plan B if you find that your time there is running short.

With or without tweaks, I'm sure you will have a great trip -- enjoy!

Thank you, Kja!

You are correct, we decided to skip major ruins, in order to have time for Madonie park and seeing some rural areas.

For Monreale, I will make sure to remember your advice and allocate enough time. Not enough time in Palermo, but this is all we can do.

As for Siracusa, you are correct, we have like 2.5 days - but we are actually staying in Ortiga two nights (Hotel Antico Roma 1880). Will see how we like the area, and this will drive our decision on wether to do a day trip or not.

Piazza Armerina -you actually mentioned this earlier, that we need to make sure we have enough time to see mosaics, and I'll make sure of this.

Thank you again!
