Need help with Norway trip

Hi!

We are going to be in Norway from July 7 to July 12 - yes, I know, too short, but I am trying to make the most of it. We will arrive in Oslo around 3pm on 7th, and plan to stay there on 8th, leaving on 9th early morning on the NIN trip. We carry on to Bergen and stay there for the night. And then the dilemma begins... we would like to do some hiking, maybe a glacier hike, Pulpit Rock sounds amazing, and all those fjords! I was not planning to drive but seems as if that might be our best option. I have been trying to find out if there are tour groups that can take us on two day trips from Bergen for these? Or perhaps we can stop along the way on NIN and do the glacier hike (Briksdal?) and then carry on to Bergen? We can leave from Oslo on 8th too. We fly out of Bergen on 12th morning to Stockholm.

Would like to mention that DH would love to climb Pulpit Rock, while I would like to gaze at it. Four hours is a bit much for me. Ideally, we will not like to drive/cruise the whole day. As always, much thanks for your help.

We took the train from Oslo to Voss where we rented our car and did our own tour of the fjords for 5 days. We returned the car to Voss and then trained on to Bergen where we stayed two days before flying out. This gave us the flexibility we wanted to be able to visit out of the way places on our own.

Every time someone mentions Pulpit Rock I give the same downer advice. I am starting to depress myself.

But there is a good chance it will rain on any given day in July and going to Pulpit Rock on a rainy day would be less than ideal. Parts of the climb will be slippery and there is a chance you won't see much from the top. We gave ourselves a two day window in August 2013. That was fortunate as the first day was a washout.

On the brighter side it is not that difficult a climb. More like an uphill hike. You might want to give it a shot.

Whatever you decide I would remain flexible (tough to do on a short trip) in case the weather argues against going to Stavanger.

Thanks for that advice! Still working on that itinerary. Might leave from Oslo a day earlier...

Good idea. This site gives the weather near Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) and might be more reliable than relying on the Stavanger forecast:
