need help with my vication to Nice, France.
I am expat living in Munich and I will be going to Nice in France with my wife and 2 year old twin girls for 10 days between jan 4-14. How will the weather be like? Will it be safe to rent a bmw or mercedez there?

The weather will certainly be warmer than in Munich, but still chilly, and you may get the mistral, which can be annoying at best. I would never, ever rent a luxury car in that part of the world - you would be practically begging for trouble, although you'd be safer than in summer when more thieves and vandals are looking to prey on tourists.

I love Nice and I'm not one for cities.
I agree with Francoise, never rent a luxry auto. There are so many great places to visit within a short distance. Old Nice is charming... and
the open air market in Veiux Nice is such fun. If you're interested in a
medium priced hotel w/ the friendliest
innkeeper, let me know. Enjoy. Check the weather on the web. sk

Weather is changeable. Check it on the web. Could be anywhere between 45-60 fahrenheit. Never thought abt safety of a luxury car there. I rented a Mercedes there once. The problem was it was too big to navigate small streets & cost too much for petrol. I would stick with a midsize car-Renault?
You only need a car if you're planning on going places other than Nice & depending on where, you could manage with the train which runs along the coast.

As the person above me said, the weather will be changeable and, personally, I'd put the range a bit lower at 40-55 fahrenheit.
Advantages of a BMW/Mecedes: comfortable ride; great handling on winding roads; "prestige" (if that sort of thing is important to you)
Disadvantages: may be too large to navigate some of the smallest streets; the "sign" on them that says "My driver has lots of money; steal me."
It's your call.

Having spent much time in France I can tell you that the smaller MB (C-class or E-class, which is what most agencies rent out) are not considered "luxury". Ever hail a cab in France? 25% chance it is an E-class. The larger S-class is another matter.
The cars are far more stripped down there, and much cheaper, than in the US.

Living in the south of France, I can tell YOU that thieves and vandals don't care about the difference between European and US versions of BMWs/Mercedes. If they are going to go after a car (and its occupants, sometimes), they will go after a Mercedes before they go after a Peugot. In my opinion, it's just stupid to rent one of these cars - and totally unneccessary. You have to take precautions with any rental car in the south of France - why court even more danger?
