need help with my Italy itinerary.
 

My partner and I already have booked to stay 5 days in Rome and 4 days in Venice. We would like to add one more place. We want to go to a place that has breathtaking scenery, we have to take into consideration the weather since we will be there after new year. ANy ideas?

Don't know how much travel time you have available, but someplace in the Dolomites could be lovely at that time of year. Cortina? Merano? etc.

The Dolomites are a great idea. Cortina or any village around Sondrio or anyplace by Lago Maggiore or Lago di Como or Garda. Those are all beautiful any time of year and relaxing. Lucky you.

The Amalfi Coast, particularly Positano and Ravello, are breathtaking. So is Taormina. Have fun.

Are you flying into Rome and out of Venice? It appears that way from what you have said, but that point isn't clear. Where you go will probably depend more on where you land and depart that on any other factor (assuming you do have some time limits). <BR><BR>If you land in Rome, then a trip to the Dolomites would most sensibly be done before going to Venice---if you leave to go home from Venice. You haven't said whether your booked reservations for Rome and Venice are on successive days, or whether there is a space between, or whether the third place you want to go will come after Venice, and how that all relates to your overall itinerary. I would also vote for the area around Merano and west of there as a wonderfully scenic place.<BR><BR>If you have dates for Rome and Venice that require you to be in Venice immediately after Rome, then going to the Dolomites will have to be last. I am just a bit concerned about the efficiency of your overall itinerary and am trying to recommend something that has some kind of contiguous flow.<BR>To know best what to suggest, I would need to know your arrival and departure cities.

Why not spend some time in Florence. I'ts a great city... get out into the Tuscany countryside... it's on your way and well worth it... Otherwise, if yo want mountains, go north into the Dolomites.... Lake Como is beautiful. Good luck.
