Need help with my Italy honeymoon itinerary

Hi there. Me and my fiance are planning are October honeymoon. We intend to spend 13 nights in Italy followed by 6 nights in Paris.

The preliminary plan is:
- Land in Rome and spend 4 nights there
- Take the train to Florence and spend 3 nights there
- Take the train to Venice and spend 3 nights there.
- Take a flight from Venice to Naples (because i understand that the train from Venice to Naples takes around 8 hours which i believe is too long) where we intend to go directly to Capri and spend 3 nights in Capri
- Go back to Rome and fly from there to Paris (unless there's an easier option of flying out directly from Naples to Paris instead of going back to Rome again).

I would like to know whether this plan sounds reasonable and whether the order of visiting the above cities makes sense given the location of each city and transport options. Also is the proposed number of nights in each city sufficient?

I don't know what your stamina and funds are. I would prefer to get a car service from the Rome airport to take me directly to the Napoli ferry dock, and take the ferry to Capri. And then move north, finally flying to Paris. I would want to avoid backtracking and maximize my chances for nice weather in August in Capri. Depending on what time you land, you may be able to get to the Napoli ferry dock by train from Rome. You may need to spend your first night in someplace or Roma.

Even though the car service is expensive, by the time you add up transportation to the Venice airport, plus costs of air tickets, etc. a car service might be cost competitive.

sorry, i just noticed two typos in my post. One is that I mistakenly typed in august -- I do realize you are going in October -- and the other is that I meant to add that you might consider your first night in someplace like Sorrento or even Salerno if you take the train (Fodorites will scream!).

But if your plane lands at a time when you will miss the Capri ferry, I would sleep the first night in Rome, and then make my way to Capri the next morning.

Hi Khalid - To avoid backtracking I would fly open-jaw. You could -

- fly into Venice and move south - ending in Capri.
Easyjet fly Naples-Paris.

OR

- fly into Naples (- for Capri) and move north - ending in Venice.
Easyjet and MyAir fly Venice-Paris.

Hope this helps ...

another vote for flying open-jaw.

Doing Venice last is good.
The Serene One will leave you relaxed and ready to go home and face reality.

May I suggest these apartments.

Venice..

Steve has a good plan starting in Venice and moving south.

Another less expensive choice in Rome is Roma Bed and Breakfast http://www.roma-bandb.it/ about 90 euros a night. It is far west, but close to a bus stop and a lovely B&B.

In Florence, I would recomomend Hotel la Scaletta http://www.hotellascaletta.it/ which is a block from Pointe Vecchio. It has a sister B&B Florence Old Bridge which is less expensive.

Have a great time in Italia!
