Need help with luxury hotel in Paris and tours to take
 

Looking at touring the city of Paris. Want to stay in a quiet , clean, upscale , but a good value, hotel that is not to far from sights. I like to walk and see the sights on foot if possible.
Need advice best order to see sights without wasting time during 6 days there. thanks for any advice. I want to make sure I have enough time to go through Louvre Museum .And need advice on touring that museum as well.

I think in order to save yourself time looking at some guide books first would be great first step. As for touring the Louvre, get the Michelin Green Guide to begin your plan--difficult for Anyone to do it for you, having no idea if you would love the Egyptian wing or the 15th century.

I enjoyed the tour of the Louvre Rick Steves mapped out in his book but don't know what art would appeal most to you.

I would check out some guidebooks from your local library or purchase some so you can decide which places are highlights for you. Once you have a tentative itinerary, helpful posters here can make suggestions and assist you with making your visit as efficient as possible.

Something I enjoyed doing was visiting the Eiffel Tower at night when it was all lit and most other sights are closed.

A luxury hotel is a whole different thing from an upscale value hotel. The difference between about 300 euros and 800 or 900 euros per night.

You need to clarify what you are looking for.

Suggest you start with a Michelin green guide. It has a good map locating the major sights, a rating of the sights by * and also tells you how long it will actually take to see it. Six days is enough time to see a lot. Just be sure you check opening and closing days as well as location/nearest Metro stop.

In your title you say "luxury", but in your posts you talk about "good value" . . . so I agree, w/o your specific budget, no one has any idea what you are actually looking for.

Get a map and map out sites that are close by each other so as to limit travel time between them (Eiffel Tower, Invalides, Arc de Triomphe/Champs Elysees, etc.). Check good internet sites like Fodors.com and similar (who remain nameless on this board) to see potential itineraries.

Right now, you've named only one site you will see, therefore who knows how to help you? To help us help you: what else is on your agenda?

And what is your nightly lodging budget in $ or E?

Don't you have access to a concierge service you could ask about this? I mean, asking on Fodors for advice about 'luxury' really isn't going to work you know. That's like asking someone who works at Walmart where to go for a good pair of custom made shoes.

There's a world of difference between luxury and good-value upscale, as in hundreds of euros per night. Please tell us which it is you're looking for.

As for what to see and do and tours, that's what the thousands of guidebooks and websites out there are for. Get busy. And work with a map to make your plans.

You haven't said what sights you want to see. We would need to know that before offering any help in this area.

A good map of Paris (I like Streetwise laminated maps) and some post it flags is a good investment. You can mark the sights you want to see and it will become apparent which sights are near each other. Some guide books lists sights by arrondissement but this is not foolproof since sights can be close to each other yet been in arrondissements with a large number spread.

I can recommend Paris Walks and Context tours. You should also look into tours given by museums (if you're going to any museums other than the Louvre).

You can browse the Louvre web site and get an idea of what they offer and where the things that interest you are located in the museum. Make a plan from there.

camber has been around for awhile, but appears to be somewhat confused. Luxury hotel, upscale value? Sightseeing "without wasting time"? This is Paris you're talking about. Luxury hotels are expensive and wasting time one of its virtues.

If I were you, I would also get a guidebook that lists the top sights and see them if you don't want to waste time or decide for yourself what you want to see. They are usually spot-on as there is general agreement as to what the top tourist sights in Paris are. I know Frommers generally has a good section in each guidebook about "what to do if you have 5 days", "3 days", etc., and I think they do a good job. I think Fodors also has something similar, but it's more like what the top sights are in a city. I'm sure they would list Notre Dame, Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Latin Qtr, and a few other things. But with 6 days, you can see quite a bit, actually, and if you don't want to waste time, just group them in terms of where they are in the city.
