Need help with London Tube
I am flying into Heathrow tomorrow night and need to go to Victoria Station. After I take the Heathrow Express, what is the best route to take to get to Victoria?
Thank you. |
The Heathrow Express goes to Paddington, then the Circle Line goes to Victoria.
From Heathrow to Victoria, the easiest route is the Piccadilly Line to Hammersmith where you can change by crossing the platform to the District Line. |
Would it not be simpler to take a National Express bus direct from Heathrow to Victoria ? (I really don't know, but I believe such buses are quite frequent, and may be considerably cheaper)

Thanks Geoffhamer.

There really is no "best way". It depends on whether you consider the best way the fastest way or the cheapest way. It also depends on how much baggage you have and how many are travelling together.
One of the unfortunate things about the Heathrow Express..Paddington station can be a very out of the way place... Officially if you want to take one tube train it would be a circle line tran which goes directly to Victoria but the circle line is S L O W as molasses and often there is track work and signal failures and all sorts of dicey stuff which somewhat negates the time savings on the Heaqthrow Express. It might be a little faster to take the Bakerloo line to Oxford Circus and then switch to the Victoria line but then again switching is a pain in the petuna; especially with baggage. Frankly it wouldn't take all that much longer to simple take a Picadilly line train directly from Heathrow (might be complicated if you're coming into terminal 4 by the closure of the tube there but from any other terminal it's not that bad)and switch at Earls Court to a district line train to Victoria or continue on the Picadilly line to Green Park and switch to the Victoria line. It will only be a couple of minutes longer than the Heathrow Express and save you around 10 quid ; of course there's always car service from Heathrow or a taxi from Paddington all of which can add to the time because of traffic. |
From Paddington to Victoria by Circle line.

Correction wasn't thinking...one of th eother posters had a better idea...switch form the Picadilly line to the District line at Hammersmith which is just walking across the platform (since I usually go north from Earls Court forgot that) but again the District line seems to be very very slow although a bit more reliable than the circle line.

Unless you're arriving very late, I'd strongly recommend against getting a bus/coach as this will take forever to get to Victoria.
The Piccadilly line will take a while but you will be able to change easily to the District line at either Hammersmith or Barons Court. Quicker will be the Heathrow Express but you will then have to trek across London. I'd vote for Piccadilly line and then change to District. If you go to www.tfl.gov.uk then you'll be able to put the info into the journey planner and make your own decision. |
