Need help with Itinerary
My husband and I will be in Germany in October for 7 days/6 nights. We are flying into Munich, renting a car and would preferably like to make 2 towns/cities our base for 3 nights each and travel from there, as we do not like the idea of changing hotels frequently. We think we would like to stay outside of Munich for the first 3 nights (both for expense and ease of driving/parking reasons). Any suggestions for a base around the area and/or an itinerary that would give us a good balance of Munich and Bavaria?

Also, would welcome any input as to where we should spend the other 3 nights. The Rhine/Mosel? The Black Forest? Other ideas? We will be traveling to Amsterdam from there, so that is also a consideration for us. We would appreciate any advice.

The northern end of the Black Forest is a stretch but a pretty good choice. Baden-Baden for some classy choices in lodging; Obrkiirch for more options in the quaint and homy department.
Hi
try Augsburg as your base. An very, very historical city. Its about 45 minute by train to Munich. Take The "Bavaria Ticket" (Bayern Card) of the German Railways. Its only 40 German marks for a one day ; you can go whereever you want within Bavaria. No need to have a car in Munich. The centre can be done on foot within two days without going into museums etc.
Do not forget to see Regensburg on the Danube. For futher information try mail adress. Regards Hans

You might want to check out the book "Daytrips Germany" by Earl Steinbicker. He gives some really great tips about doing daytrips and itineraries. That book really helped me on my trips to Germany.
