Need Help with Istanbul Hotel
 

I am looking for recommendations for a smaller boutique hotel in the Sultanahmet area with a rooftop terrace ( that is a must). Thanks!

I stayed for about a week at the Askin Hotel in Sultanahamet. Smaller and next door to the Blue House Hotel, friendly staff, moderately priced and it does indeed have a roof terrace where breakfast is served.

Loved this hotel and would stay there again in a heart beat. It's a short block from the wall of the Four Seasons in Sultanhamet, so very centrally located to the Sultanhamet action.

OK, now that I have looked at a lot of hotels I have a better idea of what I am looking for. Hotel Empress Zoe looks to be a bit out of our price range, and Hotel Askin does not provide enough information their website for me to tell much (no photos of bathrooms, no info about breakfast or prices).

I will post my wish list and maybe someone can suggest a match: double room for 140 euros or less; light and bright rooms (not just one small window), decor more modern than ornate (wood floors would be great); bathroom with walk-in shower rather than a tub with hand-held shower; and a nice breakfast. We would prefer a place with airport pickup (we will be staying 4 nights so meet most minimum for that) and the roof terrace is still a must. Also we would like a place where we can have a drink (wine) on that terrace.

So far, Hotel Dersaadet, Hotel Erboy, and Hotel Ada appear to meet most if not all. Hotel Berce and Hotel Osmanon both look wonderful but neither mentions airport pickup. We will be arriving after a long flight from the US west coast, and I would like this part to be easy (no stress with public transport or high taxi prices). Hotel Neorion looks intriguing, but their booking function is either not working or really opaque, so I can't tell what their prices are.

If anyone has person experience with these places or others (still in Sultanahmet) that would fit, I'd love to hear it.

And yes I know Turkey uses lira but they all seem to quote hotel prices in euro.

Hotel Niles, not in the Sultanahmet, In Garment district Close to grand bazaar.short walk to tram .about 15 min walk to blue mosque etc. Best service we have ever had. Rooftop deck looking over sea of marmara. Breakfast served on rooftop deck. Can order dinner from restaurant one block away and they deliver to rooftop deck. quiet, reasonably priced. the hotel arranged for us to be picked up at airport, I don't recall price, but think it was around 50 E. was worth every penny as we arrived in Istanbul at midnight.

We stayed at the Hotel Tan and liked it very much.

You can easily check prices and book Hotel Neorion on www.booking.com. The hotel will also send you a confirmation and information about the city.

Check out the Neorion, ranked #1 on trip advisor. I stayed there for a week last year and loved it! The service is outstanding and they have a nightly wine reception on their roof (included in hotel price).

We really liked the small Hotel Dersaadet. We had a lovely large room and the rooftop terrace was perfect. They serve breakfast there and later in the day you can relax with a glass of wine and enjoy the views. The location in the Sultanhamet is ideal.

Hotel Neorion looksks very appealing but I could not book of their website. I should check prices on booking.com to know what they are. But the hotel says to bookonntheir website to get the airport transfer and other benefits. but the booking function did not work when I tried it to find prices. I will try again.

Royal,,that is good to hear about Dersaadet. It is one of my first picks so it is good to hear of your good experience there.

Are any of these places located on small quiet streets? As opposed to larger streets with traffic? Not thinking so much of noise, just the ambiance of walking to and from our hotel, since walking is our favorite way of seeing a city.

We stayed at the Hotel Dersadaat a couple of years ago, and really enjoyed it. It was recommended by friends who had stayed there the year before. The location was a bit difficult for the taxi driver to find, but once there, we enjoiyed the hotel and the area immensely.

I don't know your dates, but the Neorion Hotel is showing €194/night on random dates in September-October, €189/night ~November and €140/night on random dates in January-February.

I was able to look at these prices on their website.

We wandered in to look at the Dersaadet on our recent trip because relatives had stayed there and people we know are staying there later this year. It is in a great location and has the requisite rooftop breakfast room, but "modern" it most definitely is not!

Another vote for the Dersaadet where we stayed this April. Small, intimate, great location near the Blue Mosque and the tram stop. Very nice breakfast, outdoor terrace (narrow but scenic with great views), helpful staff. And yes, it is on a quiet side street (although you will get the call to prayer and random street noise which we actually enjoyed). No, it is not modern- it is charming!

Also they do have airport pick up if you stay a certain amount of days Not sure how many.The manager Deniz is wonderful

We stayed 3 different times in Istanbul on our trip last month... Erboy (amazing, but no rooftop), Azade (expensive and just ok)... and then at the Cosmopolitan Park Hotel.

Cosmopolitan Park Hotel was a gamble, because there wasn't much trusty feedback. But I was determined to have our last nights in Istanbul with a rooftop terrace and a water view from our room. We had a budget of maximum 100Euro. This hotel fit the bill and, while it is modest, we really liked it. No elevator, however. The location is wonderful and just a couple of doors from the 4 Seasons and some other quite expensive hotels. If you are on a budget and want a water view, this is a great find.

No terrace at Erboy? That is good to know--somehow I didn't catch that.

Dersaadet looks like a clear favorite. I did not express myself well when I said "modern.". We are looking for simple and charming---wood, tile and marble surfaces----rather than ornate and palatial with lots of heavy fabrics ( dust catchers).

I think you ought to look at the "traveler photos" of the Dersaadet on TripAdvisor. It wouldn't suit me, but it might suit you.

enzian-- the erboy does have a terrace restaurant-- but you can't hang out there otherwise. breakfast is surved at street level. (and breakfast was outstanding.)
