Need help with Easyjet
 

Hello fellow fodorites! I'm trying to figure out Easyjet since we have never flown with them before. Do you have to pay for each checked bag you take, or do you get any without being charged? I can't quite figure this out. Also, can you take a carry on free of charge, or do you pay for this also? Finally, there is an additional 36 euro fee per person, what is this for? Thanks in advance. Each checked bag costs.
In addition, you can pay in advance if your checked bag(s) exceeds the weight limit.
So you pay for both variables: number of bags checked, and to increase the overall weight limit.

Let's say you need to check one suitcase. That makes €9 with a limit of 20 kilos. If you need to take a 2nd suitcase, increase number of checked bags to "2", for another €9. But the weight limit has not been increased yet, so both suitcases may not weigh more than 20 kilos altogether. If you need more kilos, you must also increase the weight limit by whatever number is necessary (and that's when it gets really expensive).

Cabin luggage is limited by size, but not weight. And size will be checked.

The additional fees will probably be airport taxes & fees.

tell us when and where and how many you're going and we'll try to work it out for you. the €36 may be taxes as the other poster says, or insurance [you have to click it three times eventually to get rid of it!].

Ann- There will be four of us traveling from London to Rome. 2adults and 2 children. Preferably leaving on March 16th and returning the 19th or 20th. We will probably have to suitcases to check. Thanks for your help! For some reason I just couldn't get it all figued out. Happy Week-End! Jennifer

carry on luggage is free with ej so if we are going with 2 kids & its only for a week we usually take a couple of small pull along cases & 2 checked bags for all of us rather than 1 each,keeps costs down a little.

That was our same thought!

Whatever the €36 fee is it cannot be "taxes" as Easyjet quotes prices including all taxes and charges

What it could be is

a) Speedy boarding
b) Travel Insurance
c) Carbon Offset
d) bags (most likely as they charge €9 per bag - therefore 2 bags on a return trip = €36)
e) Sports equipment
f) Credit Card Fee

What I don't understand is why you can't work out what it is as at Step 2 of 5 you are given a breakdown of what you are booking and at Step 4 of 5 you are given a choice of total cost depending on what type of card you use to make the booking

I agree with alanRow. Normally you should see the breakdown on Step2 as said above. You get somehow a different page?

And I suspect €36 is the following as it is shown per person (vs luggage supplement for the party).

Third-party airport operator charges & government taxes
per adult or child : £25.00 (isn't it about €36?)

I put your requirements into the esayjet booking site and think that your €36 is indeed what are called 3rd party charges and taxes, as mysteriously, the cost of the flights seems to have dropped when you get into the booking process.

to work out whther you can get away with 2 checked bags [and only 20kg in each bag] have a trial pack, using a baggage scale. we got a digital one from Lakland. although it was pricey at £19.95, it paid for itself in avoided over-weight charges.

if you think you might go over, it is a lot cheaper to pre-pay for an extra bag, than to pay for extra weight at check-in.

don't forget to take the scales with you so you can weigh your luggage on the way home.

finally, the insurancve charges are pretty high, as they charge the same for adults and children. if yo think you may be taking another trip within 12 months, then annual family travel insurance may be cheaper.

Alanrow- I could figure out how the process works, I simply didn't understand what third party charges were. I just wanted to verify all charges before booking.
