Need Help with Czech Republic Itinerary

Hello,
I posted a question in April & then stopped posting because I thought we might have to postpone our trip to Czech Republic but looks like now we can go. To give you background information, we are a family of 4 (includes 2 daughters in their 20's). Our youngest daughter studied in Prague in 2003 & we visited her then but only saw Prague & Krakow. Our oldest daughter was unable to accompany us at the time, but she has always wanted to see Prague. So on this trip we want to see Prague & some of the Czech countryside. Because of our busy schedules & commitments, the only time we can go is from Aug 1 - Aug 9 (I know, not a lot of time but better than nothing).

I haven't made airline reservations yet but hope to do so tomorrow. I would greatly appreciate input & comments on our tentative itinerary:

Aug 1 - Fly from USA to Prague
Aug 2 - Arrive Prague around 2:00PM & overnight in Prague
Aug 3 - overnight in Prague
Aug 4 - Overnight in Prague
Aug 5 - Drive to Cesky Krumlov - 2 hour drive from Prague.
Maybe stop at Karljstein Castle along the way.
Overnight in CK
Aug 6 - Overnight in CK
Aug 7 - Maybe drive to Telc & overnight in Telc (how long is the drive?)
Aug 8 - Drive back to Prague & stop in Kutna Hora along the way.
Aug 9 - Return to USA.

Does this itinerary make sense? My daughter would like to visit Karlovy VAry but it is in different direction than CK. Would it make sense to squeeze in KV? How long is the drive from KV to CK? Also, my guidebook says the road from Prague to KV is treacherous because of reckless drivers. How accurate is this?

Any hotel suggestions? Not looking for expensive. My guide book recommends Golden Angel, Pension Barbakan & Hotel Konvice for moderate priced hotels in CK.
Last time we stayed in Pension Dietzenhofer in Prague so I will contac them to check on availability. Any other suggestions for Prague? We don't want to stay too far out unless it is too expensive to stay closer.

Thanks for all your help.
Karen

I haven't friven in Czech, but once took bus from Ceske Budejovice(not far from CK) to Telc, it took about 3 hours.

The square in Telc is most beautiful/interesting, but I am not sure about staying over night over there, it seemed not very much else to see.

Not sure about the price range, but I have stayed at Hotel Cloister Inn(www.cloister-inn.com) in Prague, good location, but basic room.

Thank you Judy. I will check out Cloister Inn.

Does anyone know what town the rock city Adrspach is located in? Can't seem to find it on the map. How far is it from Karlovy Vary? Three of us may be able to extend our trip for 2 - 4 days after oldest daughter returns to U.S. We may go to Karlovy Vary for 1 - 2 nights & maybe rock city if it isn't too long a drive.
Thanks.

Hi Karen,
Adrspach is quite a long way from Telc (about four hours driving) but it is spectacular. I have some pictures if you like to see them:

Hope that helps!

Jeremy, tried to look at your pictures, but all I got was cannot find server.

I thought I had posted on this thread but it appears that I didn't.

I would give Karljsten Castle a miss. It wasn't all that interesting. You cannot do it on your own; must do the tour. The most interesing room is St Mary's Chapel and that isn't very thrilling. Spend your time elsewhere.

Nice photos, Jeremy. Some unusual stuff on your site LOL.

Adrienne,
I read in my guide book that the walk up the hill to Karljstein Castle is beautiful & that the walk is well worth it. Do you think it is worth a stop for this reason?

There is another castle nearby that I read about, called Krivoklat, It's supposed to be nicer & quieter than Karljstein. Is it worth a stop?

I only walked down the hill and the street is filled with shops wanting to sell you stuff. The ride to the castle via mini van was lovely but is it worth an hour to get there and an hour back just to see lovely scenery? I think there are probably other destinations that are nicer.

You can look at my photos of Karljstein. Scroll down to Prague; Karljstein begins in the third row, second from the right. Click on the photos to make them larger.

Haven't been to Krivoklat.
