Need help with Anek Lines ferry cabin type selection

I'm trying to book an overnight ferry from Athens to Santorini. It seems Anek Lines is the only one that offers that. I'm a bit confused by the different types of cabins they listed on their online booking page. They have

Whole Cabin Selection
AB3 Inside
A2 Ouside
Deck
Air Seat
Shared Berth Selection

We have 2 couples so would like to have 2 cabins to ourselves. Which one should i choose? THanks

Choose whichever of the AB3 Inside or the A2 Outside cabins are available. Outside cabins have windows, Inside cabins don't.

Deck, Air Seat and Shared Berth Selection are not cabins.

Thanks brotherlee for your prompt response! May i know if the numbers in AB3 & A2 indicate no. of beds per cabin? if we want to have cabins with 2 beds, we can only choose A2? thanks

I believe that is correct.

You can choose a 3-bed cabin if you are willing to pay for the extra bed.

Thanks you!

Make sure you choose Whole Cabin. Shared berth means you may end up separate and with strangers.

Nadia May 24th, 2010 07:24 PM

Shared Berth because it means you can end up sleeping in a cabin with stangers (they just find you an available bed).

I am planning to take ferry from venice to patras, but as i'm on budget, i can only afford Deck or Air seat. The trip takes about one day and 2 nights, so can anyone tell me if with Deck or Air seat, will the trip be ok? I mean, can i have at least several hours sleep each night?

Thanks!

Travelling on a budget, it is just as important to make good use of your time as to reduce transportation costs. One day and two nights on a ferry is a long time, and if you are heading towards Athens you still have the overland journey to there from Patras.

Check out flights from Venice to Athens, or from another Italian airport if that would be more convenient. Aegean Airlines has flights four times per week direct from Venice to Athens that take only 2hrs 10min. You don't say when you are travelling, so it's difficult to estimate cost of the flight. When I checked on the Aegean website for flights in June, some were as low as €128, while others much higher.

To answer your question, though, air seats are reserved, and will give you some degree of comfort. Whether you can get much sleep or not depends on how well you can cope with other people moving around and making noise. If you can sleep on an airplane, you can probably sleep on a ferry. :-)

The seats are in a separate saloon set aside for those passengers who've reserved the seats. If you pay the deck fare, you find your own place to sleep. With a sleeping bag, you may not need to book a seat but, without a sleeping bag, it's probably better to book a seat. If you miss out on sleep during the night, you'll be able to catch up during the day. Only you know how well you sleep, so nobody else will know what's best for you.
