Need help w/transport to/from Schiphol Amsterdam
 

From Schiphol, need to get to the Hotel Pulitzer at 317 Prinsengracht. What is the best way?

Then, I will be staying at the Crowne Plaza Amsterdam Schiphol our last night. I presume the best way to get from there to the airport is a hotel shuttle?

Hotel Shuttles can be relatively expensive - the one advertised at our Amsterdam hotel in April was about 18Euro pp. Taxis significantly more. Least expensive route if you don't have a lot of baggage is to take a train from the airport to Amsterdam Central station, and then take a taxi. Trains are about every 15 minutes and take about 20 minutes to downtown, for about 4.4 Euros pp. one way. Train station is right below the airport terminal -- buy tickets on the main floor of the terminal (you will need Euros - US Credit cards not accepted) before going downs the escalators to track level.

So we should take a train to Centraal and then a taxi from there to our hotel? How much would a taxi from there cost?

The Hotel Pulitzer is about a mile from Central Station so you could take a taxi, tram or walk.

It is simple to take train to Central Station then hail a cab to your hotel.

Or now there is a tram that goes from Central Station down Prinsengracht.

I will be doing this myself next Wednesday, but to a different hotel. On my previous trip I found the train to be a good way to go, but then I found that the taxi's are expensive. (I am just one person) I ended up using the tram #2 to my hotel. That worked just fine. For me it really depends on the luggage. I am likely to take Connexxion shuttle this time. It is 14 Euros per person. I looked and your hotel is on their list, so is Crown Plaza. (You would need to reserve ride back to the airport) They have a specific schedule from the airport. My suggestion would be to take the train to Central station, then just outside the station is the tourism bureau. You can find out about the IAmsterdam pass which includes museum entries, a canal boat ride, and unlimited tram, bus, metro use for a specific number of days. You can buy the pass for 24, 48 or 72 hours. This pass is a great value for the money.

We found it very easy to use our pass and the tram system around the city. From £38 for 24 hours to £58 for 3 full days we found the pass to be well worth every penney, and trust me we are both cheap travelers :).

Using your pass to take a tram to your hotel, will get you into the Dutch experience right away.

I second the opinion to take the train to A'dam Central station. Be sure to stop by the tourism bureau office which is in front of the train station to pick up tourist information, discounts, tickets, maps, and buy passes.

If you look at the map, you might even be able to walk to your hotel. But you probably don't want to lug your luggage all the way down the street (I've seen people do this in the rain).

Your welcome jetsetj, we went to Amsterdam on a winter getaway long weekend last February and loved the city more than we ever imagined. Our only regret was that we didn't stay a day or so longer.

We are usually not city people, we prefer the smaller villages and countryside, but Amsterdam was faaaabulous.

Believe it or not, but the Opstopper is now called the "Stop and GO"!!! Great way to travel. For those who are new to AMS it is two strips on your card.

Am looking to travel from the Schiphol to the Estherea on Singel Canal. Does the KLM Shuttle stop in that vicinity and is it an easy way to travel? We'll have bags to lug since we are doing an extrended river cruise.

The Estherea Hotel web site suggests that you might be able to walk from Central Station if your luggage allows. It is not a long walk unless you have luggare to tote. Take a tram and get a seat near a door so your luggage will not be difficult to get off with at your stop. Better yet, take a taxi. Their web site says it will only cost around 10 euros. Have a great time in Amsterdam.

FYI -

The 10 Euro taxi ride a I mentioned in my previous post was from Central Station to the Hotel.

Their site sugests that it will cost between 35 and 45 Euros from the Airport to their hotel. That's still not a lot of money if you have a lot of luggage.

It cost us about 40 Euros from the hotel to the airport. Train/tram is cheaper if you have little baggage. If there is more than one of you the taxi seems more reasonable. You might not find the cost of the taxi too bad if you consider what the hotel costs.
