Need Help:Scandinavia 2-Week Itinerary
Here's the deal: Have round trip tickets San Diego/Copenhagen already booked. Possible plan-
3 nights Copenhagen 2 nights exploring southern Sweden (Kalmar,Visby on Gotland Island) 3 nights Stockholm 3 nights Oslo (the Norway in a Nutshell or similar trip) 2 nights Bergen (then flight back to Copenhagen) 1 night Copenhagen Return to San Diego. OR...would it be better to: Copenhagen 3 nights Overnight ferry to Oslo 2 nights Oslo 2 nights Bergen (do Nutshell tour either going or coming??? 1 night Oslo 3 nights Stockholm 1 night Visby or ?? 1 night Copenhagen Seems like too much crossing back and forth. Any advice? Thanks for your assistance! |
Andeesue: Your first itinerary has you doing a pretty efficient circle route. The second does have you zig-zagging and backtracking. You don't say how you are travelling, but it takes the better part of a day to go from Stockholm to Oslo on surface routes. I assume you are doing the "Nutshell" by starting in Oslo and ending in Bergen. Number one looks pretty good.

Your first itinerary looks pretty good. Instead of spending 3 nights in Oslo, I would spend a bit more time going through the fjords. You can easily split the Norway in a Nutshell trip into a couple days; doing it in a whole day can be kind of exhausting.

Supercat,
I like the idea of breaking up the Norway in a Nutshell tour. I'm intrigued by stopping for an overnight at the Stalheim Hotel, enjoying the beauty of the area, then continuing on to Bergen the next morning. Will stay in Bergen that night, next day, and most likely will do a night train back to Oslo and cheap flight to Copenhagen. Wish there was a budget flight from Bergen to Copenhagen. Thanks for your input. |
Andeesue: You now have a pretty good itinerary. Take a day from Oslo to add a day in the fjords. Don't reduce Bergen. Have a great trip.
