Need help please - Italy to Switzerland
Hey guys!
I am trying to work out an itinerary, and by the look of Italian rail connections, I think I am doing a bit of zig zagging/backward trekking with my current plan. Please let me know what you think: Starting out Rome > then train to Cinque Terre (via La Spezia, approx 4.5 hrs) > then train from Cinque Terre to Venice (Via Milan, approx 6 hours, only 30 mins faster via Bologna) > then train from Venice to Lucerne (via Milan - this leg is a killer, very long. However there are no flights from Venice to Lucerne) Any suggestions to reduce the travel time? Also happy to be flexible with potential stop overs. Many thanks! Linda |
You could fly Venice-Zurich (about 1.5 hours) and train Zurich Airport-Luzern (a little over an hour). It would save you maybe 2 hours if the flight is on time.
Otherwise, you picked widely separate destinations, so that means you're going to spend many hours on trains. I hope you have more than 2 weeks for this trip. |
Is there an overnight train available on the Venice/Lucerne portion?
|
Nope unfortunately from all the posts it says that all the overnight trains have stopped. :o(
Think the only way we can do this is to skip Venice. Many thanks guys! Much appreciated. |
It might be less train travel if you go to Venice from Rome (3:45), Venice to CT (5-6 hours), CT to Lucerne via Milan (long day).
